It was three months ago and I saw in the Cheap International Fares section super cheap Business and First Class fares starting in Yangon. Without thinking too much and with a little help from my friendly AFFer's (cheers Alanslegal & Danger in particular), I booked RGN-BKK-LHR-CPN return with BA in First between BKK-LHR all for sub $800.

We had some visa concerns, but got there, was worried about the first Yangon segment (went without a hitch), and now I'm sitting in the F Lounge in BKK with my wife and two young children about to board!

Without AFF this holiday would probably have been spent in Brisbane or Perth, not five nights in coughet (kids loved it) and 7 nights in Denmark, and certainly not flying at the pointy end!

I'm a very happy member of this little forum!

Cheers all!!

Ben

Ben you did that itinerary and trip for four really well. Pointy end flights can be very comfortable.

Agree totally! I also managed to get some great ex-RGN flights to CDG and now the gentleman and I will be having a very stylish European honeymoon in December. Add to that great tips and info about frequent flyer programs, credit card deals and various travel reports, AFF is a great forum! I am addicted :D

I've also benefitted from the forum - although it was done through PMs with a member. Saved me $100 plus on a reef trip out of Cairns. Won't put the details up, but you know who you are - thanks.

Excellent outcome mate, glad it worked out in the end which I had no doubts at all ;)

[If only I had used my 28degrees instead of my ANZ card, I wouldn't have had a card processing issue / delay and these tickets would have been issued properly and thus would have flown RGN-SIN-SYD with QF F 388 already; then back with SQ F 388 on SYD-SIN-RGN ... then back home again with RGN-BKK-MEL-SYD with EK F] Oh well, can't win them all though. I do still have the RGN-SIN-CDG return on SQ C 388, and RGN-BKK-ICN-LAX return with KE F so all is still good.

I love AFF too!

Currently in a little apartment in Paris after flying SYD-BKK-CDG on TG F...with the suites on the last sector. Amazing, and couldnt have done it without AFF and it's members!

I recall seeing the RGN mistake fare and thinking I should book it...unfortunately the planets didnt align but still very happy to fly to Europe in F for around $2700 each.

P.s you weren't in the TG F lounge last night were you? Spent a good 4 hrs in one of the private rooms :)

And another most appreciative member here!

Have just organised three family members into QFF Gold, courtesy of some of the tips from AFFers, from different starting points and using a combination of Partner Gold, DSC offers (which were going to be wasted, can you believe?), and JASA bookings (requiring far too much discussion about the relative merits of Classic Awards, with which you guys are all too familiar!).

Thank you to all the generous contributors to these threads.

I was a lurker before moving to Oz and signed up 2 years ago and have loved it, made SWMBO WP with some tips from here as well and as we all know, happy wife is happy life :D (at least she doesn't cringe as much when she notices I am on here again)

What was the routing that you used? :)

Apologies. I was shorthanding, as the main purpose of my post was to send out a big Thank You.

But, for background, the situations were all different - but all came to light over the past couple of days:
* One required 125 SCs to retain Gold in her own right (Had PG from last year, the first time they had been at Gold). She had received the DSC offer, and was close to the end of FF year, but decided "it couldn't be done". We cancelled a Classic Award, re-booked as a JASA (points plus pay) - and she will easily achieve Gold.
* Number 2 required 300 SCs to move from Silver to Gold, and had received the DSC offer, again close to the end of her FF year. Had a Y trip booked, but not paid for, to Asia and on to Europe. We changed some booking classes, moved to a couple of QF code shares, and she will reach Gold for the first time.
* Number 3 had no DSC offer, and Bronze status. He is now PG, courtesy of a neat swap.

So several happy flyers, thanks to AFF.

Just want to get in on the action here and praise all the contributors who make this forum great (and also the admins for keeping it going).

Thank you AFF.

Today I Logged into QFF to organise some flights and low and behold after a CX J Trip to TPE;
Current lifetime Status credits: 7,130
A total of 7,000 lifetime Status credits is required for lifetime Silver recognition

I would never have even gotten close to LTS or think about getting LTG withut the great help and advise of everyone on AFF.
Thank you all for your help and assistance!! a great community.

Now onwards and upwards to LTG.

(and hopefully the QF website updating that ive already gotten LTS :) )

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Paying the ATO and then some payroll taxes were biggies followed by Any Seat changes to get to Platinum status with Qantas. Then realizing SQ for long hauls on points was a huge win and finally getting Citi credit cards working properly rounded out domestic and international travel for seven of us.

Thank you AFF.

I'm in the same boat! I've just clicked over 7000 sc's and would never have dreamed of it before AFF. I'm now VERY focused on LTG! Hopefully this trip will earn me my Double Status Credits and if so, a bonus of 600sc's are coming my way!

You do need to keep an eye on the site for the odd mistake fare where members share the info!

http://www.australianfrequentflyer....fares/fare-gone-yangon-new-york-38443-22.html

As they say fortune favors the brave!

Maybe fortune favors the certifiably insane! I booked these fares, only to find out about the visa issues. I booked them with minutes to spare, so they were gone when I went to book more immediately after my booking was confirmed. But after a bit of messing around the first entry into RGN was easy. I'm a little concerned about my return, (they might be turning VOA applicants away) but having been there once, I'm much happier!

And its another travel experience under the belt ;)
