HSBC Star Alliance credit card in Australia

These figures will come from my accountant.

I haven’t gone past that section yet, but if that advise holds, then I can’t see how they can differentiate against me being a self funded retiree.

It's the bit after you send off the application and they ask for a copy of your most recent payslip...

Seriously, though, if I were a self-funded retiree and getting a credit card was a huge roll of the dice, this is not the prize I would be playing for.

In lieu of payslip I propose to send letter from my accountant with figures AND statement how super fund is growing in spite of withdrawals, . May work, may not.

I understand about other cards (and sign-on bonuses) but the *A card has particular appeal. I haven't been tempted (or bothered) to apply for other cards in the 5 years I've been retired (mainly in belief I'd fail).

I don't consider it a huge roll of the dice. I don't expect to apply for any more credit - or is there something else you were thinking of?

Not that anything adverse would come of applying - just that if there is an off chance of one being approved I would want it to be one with a good reward. If this is the reward you really want then go for it. Good luck!

Ok .
Ahhh, fair enough @blacksultan. I think that was for people who already held Gold status with the airline for which the complimentary status was nominated
Ok . Do you know if I can nominate krisflyer as my airline for status ( I already have gold status with them ) and receive 40 k points to transfer to air Canada ?

If to do. Not select an airline for status you could obtain 40000 points instead .

Ok .

Really sorry but don’t know. I hold Gold with SQ also, which expires in April. So I just nominated United for my status

As I understood the T&C’s if you nominated SQ they will deposit the points into SQ Kris Flyer, not the Star Alliance programme points bucket for you to distribute elsewhere (Air Canada)

But that was just my reading of the scheme. I have been wrong many, many ……… many times!!

What is your United Gold expire date?

Hey guys,
I need your opinion. I'm planning on travelling to South Korea - Incheon from SYD - ICN - SYD in May and SYD - ICN - NRT - SYD. I'm booked my ticket with Asiana and used Asiana's FF membership. I am just wondering if I nominate SIA or Air Canada, for *A Gold, will they let me use Asiana's lounge? I'm still indecisive on which *A Gold to pick. I still plan to reach *A Gold with Asiana in Sept/Oct for a flight with Asiana to London.

I am already VA Platinum so I don't see many benefits to being Gold with SIA since I would get those benefits anyway.

You would be able to access to OZ J Lounge with *G status. It’s an ok lounge but nothing particularly memorable.

with the AC membership carrying over to end of the next calendar year, I presume you wouldn’t be bumped down if you didn’t meet the card spend limit to retain gold if you paid your $450 at the start of your second year.

I can’t see a downside to picking AC gold (more airlines that status can be used on) other than being (near) impossible to meet the “organic” requirements to retain gold outside of the HSBC card due to the spend required on AC metal ($6,000).

Is the KF gold renewal requirement less than obtaining it from scratch for example? Looks like you’d still need to fly 50,000 elite miles.

KF normal requalification is the same as for first qualification - so 50,000 elite miles.

Has been 3 weeks since I selected AC gold . It has not been actioned . Does anyone know who I can approach ?

I'm very disappointed to find that Beem It rejects this card as a non-Australian card.

Just to make sure something wacky isn't going on, has anyone had luck adding this card to Beem It?

As a follow-up to my comment, has anyone used Sniip with this card?

Beem it is owned by EFTPOS which is owned by the main banks (I think?) so while disappointing I'm not surprised HSBC cards are excluded

Is this because HSBC does not support EFTPOS? I've seen references to Macquarie and HSBC in this regards but do not have my head around it.

My HSBC debit card still supports eftpos and I use it for beemit regularly. My Macquarie account however will not work

It was originally owned by cba wbc and nab but eftpos bought it a few years ago

I would assume that the bin for the card was re assigned to HSBC AU by visa when the card product was released and beemit hasn't updated their lists since

Thanks for the info. I've since seen a comment from Beem It suggesting they're aware of the issue and planning to sort it out but obviously that hasn't happened yet.
