i'm trying to buy virgin australia flights that i can upgrade on skyscanner etc...

is there a way to know what type of flight you're buying (saver, flexi, premium etc) ?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

With Skyscanner they usually transfer you to 3rd party website so not sure fare class is stored anywhere on Skyscanner. Try inspecting HTML to see if you can find anything that reveal booking codes.

By the way I have wanted to know the fare class of flights available on Skyscanner as I need to be sure the airfare will earn SCs and/or points.

Naively just booked 4 economy flights on Alitalia FCO - ATH for September after finding on Skyscanner. Took link to Alitalia and it was a simple process of names and credit card details. There was no mention of baggage anywhere (we wanted for all fares) and nothing in confirmation e-mail except confirming they were economy. Looking on the Alitalia web site it said economy fare included 23kg baggage so I assumed that 23kg was included. Looking deeper I went directly to Alitalia and saw there were 3 different economy fares. I called the helpline and was told I had booked the Light fare with no checked baggage. No big deal as baggage can be added on when checking in online later in the year but annoying that there was no reference to baggage on Skyscanner or on Alitalia when following the link.

How much cheap were the Y Light fares compared to the other 2 types of Y fares? I ask because it might work out better for you in the end.

The next one up was about $20aud more which included baggage. The top one was a flexi fare about $200 more. In the Alitalia support it says extra baggage at online check-in is €20euro which will be about $30. So maybe about $10 extra which I can live with
