How to redeem non-QF oneworld airline flights?

Anyone has any idea if I can book MSA (Malaysia Airline) flight from Qantas online using points?

• A redeem flight from MEL to SIN on QF will cost me 30K points plus AUD251.
• A redeem flight from United only charge me AUD70.

I am curious to know how many points and how much for a redeem MSA flight from MEL to SIN (via KUL). And is it possible to book from Qantas online? If not, how to redeem a flight from MSA. I just want to see if there are any big differences of points and charges.

You have to phone Qantas and ask to book (and pay the phone fee) if trying to use QF points. Some partner airline reward flights cannot be booked on line with QF (IT issues). This is an with issue MH & CX IIRC

Would expect Qantas will charge you the QF points, taxes & QF fuel surcharges/other fees. This is nothing to do with what MH (or UA) charges its own freq flyer's for the same destinations on the same flight/aircraft.

Checked with Qantas over the phone. Here's the details.

Redeem a flight from MEL-KUL-SIN on MH flights will cost me 35000 points plus AUD267 and 6000 points or AUD60 service charge.

Finally, I redeemed a flight from MEL-BNE on QF & BNE-SIN on EK for 30K points and AUD148 which is better.

I still don't understand why UA only charge customer 70, but QF will charge almost 4 times. Maybe it is a good reason to move to * Alliance.

QF charge a cash fuel surcharge:- UA does not. American Airlines (AA), a QF partner & in OneWorld, also do not charge fuel surcharge on QF fights But AA does charge a fee on BA flights. But you cannot redeem AA miles for EK flights. There is no *Alliance domestic airlines Australia. (RIP Ansett)
