How to Maintain Gold Status with Velocity

Hi. I'm relatively new to this so here goes. I'm a gold member and want to retain my gold membership in the cheapest possible way. I need 310 Status Credits to retain at this stage. I have family pooling set up with my partner and son who is 14. I was thinking about going either to Darwin or Honolulu with them in April. However, it seems that unless I pay almost $5000, I am unlikely to earn enough status credits. So my question is to the gurus: How can I, for the cheapest amount possible, go on a great holiday with my partner and son, and earn 310 status credits and 4 sectors? I noted that if we go to Hawaii on Hawaiian Airlines, is it true that I will only earn SC's for discount economy even though Hawaiian Air only has either economy or business from Sydney to Honolulu? It sounds like you only flew 90 SCs worth of flights in the past 12 months. I think you may want to reconsider how much you need it. IMO, it's probably not worth going for Gold unless you have a reasonable amount of travel for the next 12 months. Since you are currently Gold you'll have a soft bump to Silver, discounted lounge access could be an option? If you're sure you want retain status though, the status run master thread in the Velocity forum is a good resource. Flying SYD-CNS via BNE on a flexi with a promo code usually results in pretty good $/SC earn domestically.

Thanks for that, apologies if i didn't include enough information. I obtained gold in early October and am seeking to maintain that status. I know for instance that if two of us travel to Perth return in business I can retain gold status. I'm just looking for tips for a short international vacation for us that would do the same at a minimum cost.

A Syd - Bne - Vli/Nan - Syd on Flexi's is something to look into - a dummy search of the above with 2 adults & a child 6-11yr came to $2875 roughly. It would help if we knew how much Max you were willing to pay.

Is there a specific reason you wish to retain Gold?

While good deals can be found if you have the time to search, the more you're willing to spend, the more options you have available for gaining & retaining status.
