Hi Folks,

Sure I'm missing the bleeding obvious, but I can't find it. How does one determine the aircraft used by DJ on a particular flight? When I do a dummy booking on the virgin website I can see the flight number, the duration and who's operating routes, but no aircraft information. Flight in question is Pacific Blue DJ4161, but all flight numbers seem the same, no info.

I am sure there are those on this forum who will know the technical side of things - but when using the webpage it you hover over the flight number I think it tells you the type of plane? Also if it is an A330 there will be a red plane symbol next ot the flight number, that when hovered over says "operated by A330" or something else.... bear in mind I am probably wrong ;)

Recently, the mobile site has been improved and when you look at the flights available from your iphone (or such) it actually will say "Embraer" "737" or "A330" - though some flights will have no information at all (I guess that has something to do with whether flights arrive on time?!?!)

... and now for someone to come along and totally correct me

Good luck!

Click on flight information tag > timetables & schedules then search the flights you are looking for. The timetable will show & it will also have aircraft type.

Thanks to everyone who responded.

Looks like the only way to find out as Wezza shows above is:

Virgin home page -> Flight Info -> TimeTables & Flight durations -> Enter origin port and desintation (java on page doesn't seem to work, enter dates manually) then look at the timetable that appears for flight information.

Goodness me. Wouldn't it be easier Virgin to put this info up on the booking page like everyone else does?

Unless things have changed Pacific Blue use 737-800s only so those flights are pretty standard.

Here is the complete picture:

- if it is an A330, it has a small icon of an aircraft next to the flight number, and when you hover over the flight number it shows the aircraft type

- all others do not show in the booking engine (however I imagine this will change once they start selling business seats on 737s)

- there are currently 4 other aircraft types - 737-800, 737-700, E190, E170

- to view these you need to check the timetable as mentioned above (interestingly, on our work TA booking site it tells you the a/c type when making a booking, although it frequently changes, especially the 737 variants)

- the 737-700s and E170s are gradually being phased out

- soon there will be ATRs added to the aircraft list

On a side note, I'm pretty sure in the US they recently legislated that airlines have to show the Operating Carrier and Aircraft Type when making a booking, as there had been so many complaints from people thinking they were on a big aircraft with a major airline, and have ended up on a dodgy codeshare with some tiny little airline.

I am still convinced it is easier than that (says the technophobe)... though admittedly maybe not on the standard webpage, just the mobile site...

I am cough at inserting images so I hope it works. One is of the standard webpage. Where you see flight number if you hover over the red plane it tells you the operating aircraft.

The other is the mobile site, which IMO is better - you can clearly see operating craft....

Now I am alll confused

I believe the red plane on the booking page is only for A330 flights? Otherwise there is nothing to say whether it is an E90, 73G or 73H.

Thanks Misha. I have not been lucky enough to see a screen as you have posted. Perhaps its Wezza says, only available for the new A330 service?

Considerable hope for the future there. At the moment though its a PITA. Recent upgrades to the websites for SG, DJ and QF have made them _more_ difficult to use not less ... goodness me, progress eh?

Yep as I mentioned before, it only shows A330 aircraft. This is to show which aircraft have J class specifically, rather than PE.

I assume over time, as more 737 and even Embraers have J installed, this may change. Also once ATRs come in it would be nice to know beforehand if you're flying on a turbo prop rather than a jet.

There are also frequent changes to operating aircraft, between 737-700/800 and E190/170, and sometimes even from 737 to/from Embraers, so that may be why they don't include the full details in the bookin engine (even the mobile one only shows the aircraft but not the variant).
