I don't understand your point - do you think should they charge the same every day? Those prices don't look that bad (assuming they are return)...

Better pile in on the 9th if you really need to buy a ticket. Better get that time machine working.
Have started on buying AA miles but that may not be too helpful.
Have you tried Virgin to North America?
I don't know why the prices vary so much so it must be supply and demand.

The OP is posting different prices for a seat on the same flight next year, in other words its OP vs Yield Management with a win likely if it was booked May9. Must of been how they got the idea for Deal or no Deal!

Virgin Bingo or Deal or No Deal.
It's only a computer that you are playing against or is there an operator with a Branson like grin running it.
Maybe Branson has some spare time since he flogged off his loss making Virgin Money to prove there is a fool born every day and this is his new "chump game".

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

To be fair, VA had a sale on until midnight on the 9th of May so that's probably why the fare dipped to $5.5k. Presumably a number of seats were sold during the sale, pushing the post-sale price up to $7.5k rather than $6.8k. I'm not an expert but that seems logical and reasonable to me.

It seems I did not explain clearly . (It was late at night !)

On the 14th April I booked (and paid ) a J saver return flight BNE to LAX for Feb next year at the cost of $6,782.

On the 9th of May I saw that the same flight was $5,503, so I cancelled and re-booked paying a fee of $200 but with a saving to me of $1,000.
Last night I looked again and found the fare to be $7528 so I expected to see many seats sold, however when I did a dummy booking I could only
see our seats, with the rest vacant - (I had previously booked Mrs Toff a points ticket ) - except for row 5 that always seemed to be blocked.

I guess the point I was trying to make is that just because you have booked a fare keep on looking.

The points required for a reward booking also changed significantly.

I had to ring to cancel and re-book and I was interested to find that the Virgin lady could not see the fare on her system and had to look via the "public"
web site. I processed my booking whilst she waited on the other end. It took some 24 hours for the confirmation e-mail to arrive.

I must say I was most impressed by the "Virgin Girl" who could not have been more helpful - well on a par with the "Singapore Girls"

I apologise for the crime of paying cash for a seat and will try to do better in the future !

The crime will cease to be a crime if all our credit cards lose their generosity simultaneously.
I can see a time where I may have to buy tickets too.

Some small differences can be due to changes the US$ - AU$ rate of exchange rate. It is now close to 1:1 - was 1:1.05

Airline seats do not have a fixed price: its supply & demand (yield management), The price changes frequently

Currency rates used for construction of fares only change monthly and are based on the average over five days ending in the tenth of the month, coming into effect the 1st of the following month. Any impact from the current downward trend is unlikely to show for another two or so weeks, hint, hint, for those thinking about travel and yet to buy.

The airfare now seems to have stabilised at $6850 ( and has not yet changed since the dollar has gone down ) although Virgin have now an offer on points of a 15% discount - makes a reward ticket much the same as it was in January before the price changes.

Virgin pretty stable at just on $7,000 for the last several weeks, Fares on Kayak for the same flight about $6,500

And today - one week on Kayak offering the same flight at just over $4500 !!!!! (I'd be cross if I had bought a ticket three weeks ago)

Just checked VA SYD/LAX/SYD in J, right on $5k a bargain price must say, month was Oct. wonder what QF will come out with as their recent deal is over.

Wow that is cheap the best I've seen with QF is 6k but usually more like 7-7.5k.
