Hi all,

I'm no status.
I'm flying United Airlines from OMAHA to DEN then to MIAMI also later second flight... Honolulu to LAX up the back.
I have flown VA LAX-New York return....similar time\distance flight will UA be any different in seat comfort and I don't use services(ie. buy drinks or food or tv entertainment)
The flight on VA to NY had an intoxicated chick on it that attempted to hookup with 3 different guys and moved seats at least 3 times completely intoxicated(amazing how bose in ear noise cancelling headphones allowed for eavesdropping on them) NY to LA I experienced the onboard animal comfort pet policy as person beside me had a bloody dog!)
Have chosen window seat(free) checkin baggage online will make no difference in price and tshi is only available 24hrs before flight?
For future reference anyone know how to book on UA.com website and not UA.com.au as I was hit with $20 conversion tax to AU$(basically I fugured out that if you enter a milage plus number you are directed to UA.com.au website automatically or will not be able to complete booking?)
How early would you checkin?

I'm flying Delta Miami to LAX direct. They the same as comfort/experience as VA?

I'm flying Hawaiian LAX to MAUI and KONA to HONOLULU comfort/experience?

I'm pretty sure the 7 trips that I will be hit with about $100+ in checkin baggage costs this trip...other than using carryon there any tips to reduce costs?

Any other tips for the above flights to make them less painful?

Hello PLANT,

I see you've asked some similar questions in the UA Mileage Plus forum as well. I'm unable to answer you here for the same reason as there; simply, I can't really understand what your questions are. Some of your questions are too mixed up in statements (so I can't understand what the actual question is) and some of them are too generic to understand which flight you're referring to.

Those I can understand:

- I'd check-in about an hour before domestic flights in the USA. Any earlier just means you have to spend more time in the zoo of a terminal.
- UA economy class is just a bus. There is no real way to make them any less painful as you don't have access to Economy Plus seating.
- DL is pretty much the same as UA for domestic travel in the USA.
- When you mention VA in your post, do you mean VS (Virgin America)?

check out you booking online as you can sometimes have the option of ungrudging to economy plus before flying. I did when i flew in the US last year.

Yeah I could upgrade but for a cost that I thought did not give me anything worth while...ie. uncomfortable to uncomfortable+$$$ paid. I just stand up in the aisle or go to the "restrooms" after chatting to hosties/collecting a water bottle.
Yep VA is VS whoops.
How do you book directly with UA.com using an Australian credit card?
Do you put your address as something in USA and not claim FF points?
What is Hawaiian airlines like to fly compared to VS?
How do you get your luggage cost down for checkin baggage for UA, Hawaiian and Delta?

Hi Plant

Can you please reconstruct your questions. I am finding it very difficult to understand... sorry

In the meantime:
VA does not actually fly LAX-NYC. If you have a VA ticket,it will then be a DL metal. All large US domestic airlines are about the same in Y. DL and UA will have an economy comfort /economy plus option where you get an Y seat with extra leg room, earlier boarding (so you have better chance of overhead compartment space, maybe alcohol included). This option is an add-on after you buy your Y ticket.

US domestic airlines allow small pets. This is a usual custom in the US and it is prevalent with all US domestic airlines.

There is no website ua.com.au. UA.com is for underarmour clothing. Use united.com. (There is no united.com.au) At the top right hand corner is the country of origin. So long as its Australia you will not be hit with cc conversion charge. If its not Australia then click to change to Australia. UA will accept Aust credit cards, and you will have to put in an Australian billing address

VA does not fly domestically in the US so a comparison with US domestic airlines is a mute point. Except to say that Domestic australian experience in VA and QF are usually better than any domestic US carriers. Except maybe for economy comfort (DL) or economy plus (UA).

As you will be flying several legs with one airline why not investigate access to their lounges. DL allows access if you have an Amex platinum. Citibank australia card holders have Priority Pass access to several US lounges.

Yep checkin baggage fees are a fact of life in the US. thats why everyone tries to cram as much into carryon as possible.

You have not indicated if you are stopping over at each city. So cannot help further

Please let us know of your actual itinerary. Indicate if stopover or connecting.

Essentially less painful = more expensive. If you dont want more expensive then you get what you pay for...If you want to reduce baggage fees - either carry less checkin luggage, connect with the same airline on each leg, pay a more expensive fare which includes luggage, or get frequent flyer status... or join US military

Think of discount US domestic travel sort of like riding on a bus. Which means you should have minimal expectations other than to get to your destination ...eventually....

How are you getting from the west coast to OMA?

So I gatber you're doing:

a) ??? to OMA
b) OMA/xDEN/MIA on UA (or is DEN a stopover?)
c) MIA/LAX on DL
d) LAX/KOA on HA
e) KOA/HNL on HA

Who are you flying ex Australia with to the West Coast plus HNL back to Australia? Are any of the domestic US flights on your international ticket thereby giving you an allowance of 2 pieces?

I'd estimate each bag would cost between US20.00 to USD25.00 per bag each time you checkin so realistically you're probably looking at a figure more like USD175.00.

Do you really need to checkin luggage or are you taking a whole heap of winter or snow gear with you? I generally always travel HLO up until the last stopover of maybe LAS/LAX/HNL then do a bit of shopping so usually only have checked bags on the last sector.
