Hi all,
I will be spending 5 nights in KUL in late July (my first time) :). I am currently considering The Royale Chulan Hotel or Pacific Regency Hotel Suites as the prices I can see are in the $150/night range (my budget).
Has anyone stayed there or have other recommendations? It will mainly be a work trip with the Sunday off for some sightseeing/exploring.

You should have a plethora of options available, a 5* can be had for circa 340MYR, and it will depend on where you want to go each day as well. You might find Sentral better with the Hilton, Le Meridian and Aloft all basically a 5 min walk from the Airport Express.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Don't forget to visit the china town night market! We have found quite often it is cheaper to have the hotel arrange a pickup for you from the airport. They quite often have a car and driver available.

Pretty hard to beat the train given its only 28 minutes and $10AUD to Sentral.

Have just spent 6 nights at the Kul Intercontintenal ,pretty good.

Despite being an RA, I prefer the Sheraton or Doubletree in the KLCC area, last few stays at the IC I have had a room facing the building works, very annoying.

I've stayed at Hilton Sentral and Traders Hotel. Both fantastic. Hilton right next to Sentral train station. Traders near KLCC and Petronas.

Also enjoyed Sheraton which has a monorail stop nearby, but prefer the other 2.

Sheraton also has train station a block away, the train being half the price of the monorail and quicker to get to Sentral.

I really enjoyed Le Meridian and access to all the train lines inc the airport. I really can't fault my stay and it was very reasonable The best sheets I have ever slept in.....

In 2012 we really enjoyed a stay at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel & it was well within your budget. We had a Club Studio room (these had been refurbished) with great views of the Towers. Our deal included breaky, internet & club access that also had great views of the towers.

I just stayed four nights at Fraser Place in KUL in an executive one bed-room. Very happy with it for $135 per night. 5 minutes walk from the Petronas towers & Suria Mall, about 5 mins or $1.50 AUD in a cab to the Jalon Alor eating street and around 20 minutes walk from an amazing Hainaese coffee shop called Yut Kee for Kopi, Kaya toast and Roti Baba (the owner Jack is a great guy and a rugby fanatic....great atmosphere and you'll be the only non-Chinese person there....nothing like sharing a table with five octogenarian Chinese gents for breakfast....great fun). The Kuala Lumpur hop on/hop off bus is just 500m away at the base of the Petronas Towers.

The room itself was 72 sq metres, huge bathroom, bedroom and living room/office/dining room/kitchen.....pool and gym were ok....I'd certainly stay there again.

With the Hilton and Le Meridian, can one walk from the train at Sentral to the hotel easily? I'll be at the end of a business trip, so will be dragging a wheeled suitcase as well as usual wheelie carry-on.

What I'm getting at is it a smooth paved surface, or a poor one which will probably destroy the wheels on the suit cases?

Also, re the Sheraton Imperial. Attractive rate on QF web site ($407 for 3 night) but I note it says "Wireless Internet access (surcharge) is available in public areas" Is there no Wi-Fi in the rooms? The hotel web site says "high speed internet" but doesn't mention Wi-Fi.

Lastly, can anyone say if rooms offered on QF web site (ie cheapish) are generally the less-appealing rooms in the respective hotels? ie lower floors, nearer noise etc?

The new Grand Hyatt is not very grand. I stayed in the suite in Nov 12 and was very disappointed. If you want a good night's sleep you won't get it as the bed is poor. The service is poor, the room service is not the best and the house keeping/cleanliness is poor. reading tripadvisor other people have had the same experience as me.

The best hotel in KL in my opinion is the Westin in Bukit Bin tang. The service is excellent the bed very comfy, the breakfast is fantastic, the room services is good, the location is perfect smack bang in the middle. I used to stay there all the time. next time i go i will be back there instead in the not so grand hyatt.

The traders gets good reviews all the time, i stayed there and found it wasn't as good as the Westin.

The Sheraton has free WIFI in the lobby and each room has its own AP. I would use skyscanner to check out hotel pricings, you should be able to get it for around $100-125 per night using the best price guarantee. If the stay is within three weeks keen an eye on starpicks which has specials with usually one KL property participating, published Tuesday- Friday.

Great tips, thanks markis10 . I hadn't used skyscanner before - In general, I don't like 'aggregator' sites, or even the expedia type sites for offshore bookings .. they are fine until you go to check in, and there's "no record of the booking"; then recourse is difficult. (But I have used expedia for last minute bookings in US and Canada :) ).

For a 3 night stay at the Sheraton, a couple of weeks from now, skyscanner found prices $351-$450; QF site gives $407 and the hotel website gives $416. But not all the rooms were the same. For $50 I'd probably go with the 'security' of QF booking, with some additional points thrown in (but not material to the decision).

Then of course there's the Club floor, for $600 on the hotel site; $583 on QF, for the 3 nights, incl breakfast (non refundable). I'm partial to Club floors on first visits to cities. They are great to retreat to when you are "sight-sawn"-out (I'm claiming that as a word) and just want a nice G&T away from the madding crowds.

Thanks to bertflyer for starting the thread.

I think you missed a few points made earlier on:

1. Use Skyscanner to get the best rate then use Starwoods best rate guarantee to match it and get a bonus 2000 Starpoints (worth around $60) or 10% off those rates, and you then book at the SPG site which is of course secure. https://www.starwoodhotels.com/bestrate/index.html

2. As I noted the SPG email confirmation from the Sheraton will have a link where you can upgrade to a club room for RM120 which is about $35, using that with the BRG would get you a club room for $500 for the three nights ;), and over 3000 Starpoints as club earns a bonus 1000 at present (not sure when that ends).

http://www.sheratonimperialkualalumpur.com/forms/room-upgrade-club

If you book a club room, the offer is a suite for RM100.
