Not sure if this is possible, as I have only ever stayed with family in Hong Kong.

May be going there mid Oct for a couple of weeks and trying to find a hotel that is close to MTR and reasonable. By reasonable, I only want to spend AUD $120-$130/night ish, because it is for such a long period of time. Trying to spend < $2,000 for 2 weeks in accom.

Can anyone give me some ideas please? Don't care where it is, as long as accessible by train! Doesn't need to be that fancy, but internet, clean and comfortable would be factors!

Holiday Inn Express is near an MTR stop and right in the middle of Times Square area shopping. Internet is free, as is brekky i believe.

I've only stayed in HK once, so as usual :) I'll mention that hotel.

Metropark Causeway Bay...2 mins walk from Tin Hau MTR, which is 3 or 4 stations (~10 mins) from Central.

It's slightly above your preferred budget, but not by a lot. ~AUD2266 for a 14 night 'long stay' package in a standard room. This is actually more per night than the 7 night long stay package so I'm unsure if that's a mistake, or just because the longer packages take you closer to the more expensive November prices (what if your 7 night LS package was for the last week in October - doesn't make much sense). Worth querying if you're interested.

A nice hotel as far as I am concerned. We stayed in an Executive Parlour Room, but the only differences would be size and view (you can check out the view from the rooftop pool anyway). It has free broadband in-room access (though I didn't use it so cannot report on it).

There is a pleasant enough little bar, a 7-Eleven type store, and a small supermarket, all between the hotel and Tin Hau MTR. Also some nice enough local eating spots. It's on the 'outskirts' of Causeway Bay but not a long walk into the main part.

Anyway the hotel website has details on the long stay packages, under 'Special Promotion', 'Accommodation'

Park Lane Hotel is close to Causeway Bay MTR station. City View room Rate varies from HK$700++ to HK$1100 depending on how busy they are at the time. Its a nice hotel (having spent many weeks there recently). Much nicer than the HI Express Causeway Bay.

The Prudential Hotel is directly above Jordan Station in Kowloon.

On Hotelclub.com 2 weeks is around AU$2200 depending on dates.
I haven't stayed there since 2005. It was OK then and still gets good reviews.

Maybe have a look at serviced apartments? I was looking for a place for 4 ppl for 1 month, so I don't have anything that I could share with you, but budget-wise it is on par with some of the hotel recommendations that have been posted so far.

The pitfalls to look out for are places that require 1 month minimum stay (although if it works out to be the same price as a 2-week stay in a hotel... why not?)

We have stayed at Salisbury Hotel / YMCA with kids in family suite. Cannot overpraise this place, great location, 1 block to train, 2 block to star ferry. Rooms were large with King size bed in our room and 2 singles for kids, 2xTVs,cable news, desk, fridge, bathroom, even found the beds turned down when we got back at night. Staff very friendly and helpfull. Nice restaurant for breakfast the days we chose to eat there. And single rooms from about 110/night.
Also have indoor swimming pool and rock climbing wall. Ask for a 2 week discount

I have stayed at the Royal Plaza Hotel above the Mongkok East KCR train line a couple of times. It is often very well priced, under A$100 per night. A lot of flight crew stay there. The rooms are larger than many other hotels in Hong Kong.

I can recommend the JJ Hotel - Wanchai. Check out tripadvisor - it's something like the 26th ranked hotel in Hong Kong.

The cost is around AUD70 per night. No breakfast, but you get free wi-fi + tea/coffee. 20 second walk to ding ding, 5 mins MTR.

Recently stayed at Citadines Hongkong Ashley, 18 Ashley Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. Near MTR, nicely refurbished rooms with free in room broadband and handy to everything. It's more like a studio apartment than a hotel. It has a kitchenette if that's of use.

Will be there twice again in the next few months. Best to book through their own website. Might be worth contacting directly to check if a discount can be given for a longer stay.

There is no such thing as a cheap hotel in Hong Kong (Island, not Kowloon, TTS etc) this week. Finding a decent hotel room in Hong Kong tonight for under HK$2000 was a tough task. Prices really vary depending on what conferences/exhibitions are in town at the time. Apparently some jewellery trade fair starts today and overlaps with whatever banking conference was on over the last weekend. All my usual Hong Kong accommodations were fully booked out for tonight.

Stayed at Dorsett Kowloon Hotel yesterday. It is ~5 minutes walk from Olympic Station (Take airport express to Tsing Yi and then get on the orange line and it is only 3 stops away). I booked it via HotelClub at US$45 for the night (not including USD2.30 credit to be used for future bookings) but charge came through on the Amex at ~AUD53.

Rooms are small but could not have been more impressed with this hotel and I will look to stay here in future. Fantastic value and I cannot see how a brand name hotel at 3+ times the price would have made the stay any better....

for cheap as chips... try any of the mingle hotels (motels) I paid around HK 300/ night for Mingle on the park in Wanchai. Its 1 min to the ding ding and 3-4 mins to the MTR. Wireless internet is included.

Alternatively the Empire hotel in Wanchai worked out to be around HK 500 a night.

Both will be less than 2k AUD.

For internet access, it may be worth looking at buying a prepaid USB modem and access. I know 3 HK charges something like HK30/ day for mobile broadband.

Hope it helps

As with any hotel selection I would advise a quick check on tripadvisor. The mingle hotels can be cheap but have some mixed reviews.
