Hi - thinking of doing 5 or 6nights in Hong Kong in January 2014. Would prefer to stay on Island side in quality hotel. Will need 2 connecting rooms or decent sized suite (2 adults, 2 children). Would like to pay about AUD$400 per night per room. Am I dreaming?
Thanks

If you don't mind staying on Kowloon (not sure how negotiable which side you stay on is for you?) then I would recommend the Langham Mong Kok. We love the area with great food and markets, plus 40 meters to the MTR. We stay there once a year, 2 adults and 2 late teen "kids" in a 'Essential Family Place" (1 king bed, 2 singles). Looking at around $500 a night rather than $400 but it is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. Customer service is second to none.

Try the Harbour grand on the island side.
Club rooms would give you and kids access to the lounge including wifi, PC's, food, soft drink all day.
Very close to Fortress Hill station. We a great stay their in 2010.

On Kowloon side we have stayed at Novotel Nathan Road a few times. It is certainly not as good as the Langham, but still very close to MTR and temple street markets. Short walk or MTR ride to ladies markets and all the sights. Still not too far to walk to star ferry terminal. We stayed there as a couple once and with 3 children with interconnecting rooms on another occasion. Booked both times through Expedia. Both times saw numerous Qantas crew staying there too.

Stayed at Harbour Grand for 2 nights last month - very nice hotel. Harbour View room was about AUD200 a night. QF pilot for my return flight to MEL was in the lift on the second night!

Stayed at the Novotel Nathan Road with by 15 yo son earlier in the year. Highly recommend. Suggest staying on Exec floor for access to lounge (helped him with food tops ups during the day, incl breakfast in lounge or full buffet in restaurant (a good load up to start the day), provided us with some extra space apart from our room and included Internet.

MTR station a short walk buses outside the door, a block from the Temple St Markets and can either walk (reasonable) or bus to Star Ferry.

We got every where we wanted to go very easily from this hotel.

I stayed at the Hotel Icon last year for 4 days. www.hotel-icon.com It is a very well appointed hotel, with staff that are all ready and willing to help. We had a Club Harbour View room, and was not disappointed. There was no reason to close the blinds to block that view.
It comes with daily laundry credit (which was handy after 7 weeks travelling), and enough choice at breakfast so lunch is an optional extra. There are hotel buses that take you to the ferry and AIrport Express bus calls there too.
Would 110% recommend this hotel, and cannot wait to find an excuse to go back.

Give the Marco Polo a go in Kowloon horbour central everything , shopping , ferry , etc, good rates and spotlessly clean, if raining NO need to go outside walk along shopping mall to get to everything.

Stayed at the Icon last month and agree 100%...it's the only place for us when we return to Hong Kong

Another vote for the Langham Place, Mongkok, the club lounge is excellent and definitely worth the extra cost.

Icon hotel is lovely, as is the Langham Place Mongkok.
I have stayed all over HKG & rarely get disappointed whichever hotel, but location is usually my preferred option for choice.

Probably a minor consideration if you are staying 5 or 6 nights (as opposed to just overnight), but check to see whatever hotel you choose is on the free bus route from the Airport Express Train, either from Kowloon or Central stations.

Very handy to be able to just hop on a mini bus at the airport and be dropped off at the door of your hotel (and return).

I stayed at the Novotel Century on the Island recently, club floor and it was OK.

Now if you don't mind Kowloon, I'd strongly suggest you look at the Mira, Nathan Road. The Mira Hong Kong Hotel - Rooms in front of the Kowloon Park | Mira Hong Kong. Prices vary consierably through the year for 'basic' room .. from A$250 - A$400 .. but value for money!

I usually like to stay on Kowloon near the harbour because I think the view across to the island is more interesting than the reverse view.

I always stay at Langham Place, Mongkok, in the Club rooms. The highlight is that the staff, and lounge is fantastic. I couldn't fault it.
great shopping at the langham place mall. Walk to ladies market.
I have also been there with family, and had a room with two bathrooms, double/queen bed in one room, and two singles in the other.
Depending on when you go, you can usually get a twin room for approx $300+ per night, and from memory, I think we paid less than $400 per night for the family room.
considering when you have club, then you always have food and drink for the family....I think it's great value.
good luck, and enjoy HK

TQ

Any reason for the preference for the Island side? Is it $400 per night or $400 per night per room ($800 per night in total)?

Park Lane in Causeway Bay is a good choice if you want large rooms and they offer connecting rooms. It is in the middle of the shopping district and 3 minutes walk to MTR station.

The Marco Polo at Ocean Terminal Kowloon is central to it all. Club floor about USD$175o for a week. Also stayed at Kowloon hotel rooms there though real, real small.

There are 3 Marco Polo hotels with 5 minutes walk of each other. They either have small rooms (Marco Polo Prince and Marco Polo Gateway) or the rooms are very dated (Marco Polo Hong Kong, the one nearest to the Ocean Terminal). They are also quite expensive when compared to Langham which is just across the road or the Mira which is 10 minutes walk away.

I agree with cmon0005. I have stayed twice at Sheraton Hong Kong, but then again i only been to Hong Kong twice..with the last trip in late 2012, stayed in a harbour view room..Great hotel and close to all the attractions..I think I paid more than $400 per night though. cheers:) ...
