I'm scanning Hilton SYD looking for reasonably priced opportunity for a FRI/SAT/SUN any time from now but it seems like the hotel must be constantly booked through to late DEC as cheapest rooms are coming up at over $300 a night and for many weekend stays at over 450/n right through AUG-DEC.... seems really odd.

Whats going on in SYD in this half of the year? I don't remember things being like this last year.

I recently asked at HSW about a similar situation.

Like Sydney HSW is not part of the HHonors 3rd quarter promo and have very few advance purchase bookings available. The answer was that they have looked ahead at their bookings and feel they have no need to partake because of their high booking rates. They did not offer, and probably don't care, where and why the bookings are so high.

I was given Hilton Gold status via Virgin a while back.

Only once on my many trips to Sydney since have I booked the Hilton there. Seem to be always very expensive (+$300/night, often +$400/night), so I pass, remembering that even after the refirb, the rooms are pretty small.

Good luck to 'em. Sheraton on the Park it is.

and for some reason the last two years i've managed last minute bargins at Hilton Syd, they have run a small program themselves and offerred i'm sure 189/pn in the few weeks up to last week before Xmas and i've gone down and done shopping and managed to do a NOR1 to a relaxation suite for a great price.

I've also noticed last minute deals at SYD H, which are quite reasonable. Luck of the draw I guess.
