Hi all

Just looking at a trip to AKL in March and thought I would check out the Hilton - NZ$600 - NZ$700 MINIMUM price.

Am I missing something? Is there a Grand Prix on?

What travel dates?

The company I work for has its annual staff trip on in the 2nd last week of March, and I am sure we'll be at the Hilton... Usually taking 70+ rooms.

Dunno if that might affect it. ??

I stayed there once, I was talking to one of the staff there and they said that because it is next to the overseas passenger terminal it is quite popular with people going on cruises. Before their cruse starts people will stay there a few days to see Auckland. During the cruise season they can get quite full up.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Maybe they are expecting to have to redecorate the rooms after you have left...

not sure where $600-700 comes from

From the Hilton Website. Note I was booking two nights and the price per night quoted now is:

King Guest room - NZ$523
King Deluxe - NZ$594
Deluxe Harbour view plus - NZ$684

The trick is to book two one-nighters
27/03 - $320
28/03 - $340
Both on the same booking.com
still expensive but almost half the price

You wouldn't want to book a harbour view room when a ship is in port...
We sailed into Auckland on the Diamond Princess in 2010 and our balcony cabin looked right onto a one of those rooms with a verandah where a couple in their bathrobes were "enjoying" breakfast

I tried to book for 16th March and was told it was booked out

After the stay 4 nights promo last quarter, +1 received a reward certificate for one free night.
Of course no nights were available at Sydney Hilton, so I tried a couple of dates for Auckland. The reservation agent told me nothing was available there either and I commented that we would not be able to use the certificate as it expired in mid April! She asked me to hold and came back about 10 minutes later and said she was successful in getting the night we wanted in Auckland :).

The stay is for next week and the Hilton website is now showing no availability so I am very happy! (When I looked last week the cheapest room was $550)
