High points pricing

We recently booked to go to Rome business class (one way) on Cathay and the original price was 85K points per person. On screen 2 it jumped to 110K.A total of 220K plus taxes etc. Their reasoning is that the flight was not direct and we had to to for "miles flown".
Funny we are coming back on SQ from Turkey and the total price is 120K points Business Class.A significant difference ............. They don't seem to have the same policy.

Just compare VA and QF domestically for points redemptions :shock:

Same for me, was looking at redeeming SYD to KIX, it said I only required 80k points, went to the next screen and said I had insufficient points. I searched around and found the same reason you said, because it's not a direct flight and requires a stopover in HK, it accounts for the actual miles flown, not the miles between the two airports.

I thought the awards with Asia Miles were mileage based.

So SYD-FCO could look like it fits into one mileage band but SYD-HKG-FCO puts you into a higher mileage band.

SYD-HKG-BKK is another one. Makes the cost significantly higher than KrisFlyer.

Sure but SQ goes Istanbul Singapore Melbourne. Mileage difference woiuld not be significantly different. Certamily not 80K worth of points. Kris Flyer better value by far

I've just been done over on this one too.
SYD -JFK shows as 145k return on the search. So I move a load of points across and when I try to book it, it says the number of points has changed and I need 175k rtn. For the exact reason that JohnK described. Worse still, after I had been caught, I remembered reading a thread on this site about 18 months ago warning of this very problem. Darn it. Less Shiraz More concentration
