Hertz #1 Club Rentals To Date haven't reset

Hi all,

I know it's only the 1st still, and Hertz is so US-centric that they probably process #1 Awards via the US or something, but I've noticed when logging in today that the home screen shows:
"2010 Rental YTD.... 26" - i.e. it's updated the calendar year, but my qualifying #1 Club rentals haven't reset to 0...

Fingers crossed they stay that way! That said, even if they did, I'd probably still have to wait 12 months until the next calendar year resets for PC status to kick in...

Could be that the system hasn't processed through to determine who has qualified to have it display "Hertz #1 Club Gold President\'s Circle Member" (sic) yet. If it isn't updated by monday, might be worth a call to Hertz Customer Relations

Thanks Dave - I will ring them on Monday as suggested. Is anyone on this board a President's Circle Member? As Five Star i have regularly received upgrades (especially from Hertz Five Dock). Are there any other benefits I should be aware of???

YQY - may I ask what class of car you hire when you
recieve upgrades? I'm 5* and I rent full size, and I think I've only had 1 upgrade this year

I usually hire a class B (Toyota Corolla Hatch -corporate policy) - but I usually (80% of rentals) get a Corolla Sedan (C)/Camry (S)/Aurion (D). I have also got an Astra convertible, Statesmen (twice), Prius (3 times).

My rental pattern's are:-

1. Pick up from SYD domestic on Friday and return SYD domestic Sunday or return Five Dock on Friday.
2. Pick up from Five Dock on Monday/Tuesday morning and return to SYD domestic on Monday/Tuesday evening.

As a 5* the upgrade benefit is only "subject to availability" and I suspect that 5 dock does not keep many Statesman ( or Fairlanes ) at the location and so the ability to get an upgrade is limited. If you had been booking group S vehicles, I suspect that you would have done quite well at getting upgrades to D

I have been a PC member since before its inception here in Oz; the 2 key benefits of PC with a Gold Rental are

Guaranteed availability for rental ( classes A-D )
Guaranteed 1 class upgrade ( max upgrade D-F )

These benefits do have a 2 hour advance booking restriction

If you make a gold booking and they are unable to provide an upgrade, then you should ask for the compensation voucher which give ( or gave anyway) 1,000 QF FF Miles

There has been some discussion between Dave and Myself on another thread about both the qualifying requirements and benefits of PC, specifcally whether its 30 or 40 rentals as the web is not clear for Australia, each country has different regs.

PC benefits very by location at the will of the operator, at some locations I have had "your a PC, what car would you like, we have X Y Z etc". I usually book a Yaris and get anything from a Corolla to a Statesman.

You also get 5000 QFF points on your birthday by way of a voucher, free rental certs but there is not much else. Would be curious to hear what response you get form Hertz, for some reason I recall the status change only occurs in April each year ?

i think basically your status is based on usage over the 12 month calendar year ending 31 december, but your status does not get recalculated until april. then your new status is retained until next april. i may be wrong ... there are many many pages of terms and conditions. best get a cheap lawyer!

I rang Hertz in mid November when I reached 30 rentals - they said the change in status is reflected in Jan 2010. I will post my response from Hertz on Monday.

The guaranteed benefits are clearly described and not at the will of the operator. If the location provides gold service then the expected benefits are clear. Anything beyond that is at the generosity of the location itself

Pick of the fleet is a published benefit (iirc) of Platinum but the location is free to offer it to anyone

Pick of the fleet was not something I had been offered until making PC and have been offered it many times since (usually in SYD), sure its not a guaranteed benefit buts its nice when it happens, I am certainly not complaining and it keeps me with Hertz. Its also fairly rare to get a high mileage car as a PC, another nice little bonus thats not set in stone.

I was not saying that the stated benefits vary, just the bonus's that you get by being a PC, its been stated many times they are only because I am a PC that I am getting them by the staff on duty.

I was told by staff at Hertz Five Dock that they do most of their business with insurance companies - I suspect they use me to courier cars between Syd Domestic and Five Dock

I do not doubt that you have received them, just clarifying to the OP that this is not something to be expecting as a PC benefit as such unless he becomes a platinum member

Here's an email I have from Hertz a few years ago:

The upgrading of members is conducted on a yearly basis. Rental counts are
taken from the previous years (1 Jan - 31 Dec) rental activity, then
additional programming is conducted and new cards are created and posted to members by the end of April each year. This means that some members have the potential to enjoy 13 months of their higher status as upgrading takes place from 1 April each year, and anyone who no longer qualifies are
downgraded on 1 May each year.

What's a Platinum member?

Hertz Platinum is the top level of membership that Hertz offers. Not attainable by number of rentals but generally some decision within Hertz to determine whether to offer it to a person ; last year Hertz did offer it for sale in the USA at USD1200 for PC members

Has additional benefits over Gold.

Should be no queueing; just make yourself known on arrival into Hertz office and manager will come and serve straight away
No need to go to lot to get the car, the manager will bring the car round to front of location
Run of the lot on car ( subject to a min of midsize iirc )
At airport locations, no need to take a bus to terminal, the manager will drive you round in a car

Worth a try to make the call, but experience with getting an immediate upgrade is mixed.

I also think it's crazy that they no longer send out new cards (if retaining the same level). I should drop from 5 Star back to Gold this year due to lack of rentals - so will be interesting to see whether the dates mentioned above will be correct.
