Hi,

I'm not sure if this has been discussed here before but I need to know loads on certain QF flights. I have started a new job recently and do a bit of travel interstate (home base is Melbourne).

I have a midday flight (flexi-ticket) from Sydney to Melbourne next Thursday (23.05.13) and would like to use points to upgrade to Business class. I can depart Sydney any time between 9am and 12pm. My question is, which departure time from Sydney is my best chance of scoring an upgrade? Would using the site seat-guru answer my question?

Thanks in advance, and apologies if the answer to this is around already.

Your best bet is to go to make a booking on the QF website and increase the number of passengers until Business class says SOLD OUT, this will tell you how many business seats are free

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Unless of course, there are more than 9 seats :)

EF will show you U class too, meaning you can actually lock it in now if you want.

Correct, so for 767/A330 it's not much of a help

As for the upgrades, domestic upgrades are generally confirmed immediately I have found, well at least all the ones I have requested have been :)

They'll only be confirmed if there is U availability. EF will help in seeing if there is (as U is actually visible when doing an EF award fare search).
