I recently posted about flights back to the UK, however my Mum has managed to secure a 6 week teaching gig in Syd from late Aug and returning around late September or early October.

The Uni will pay up to 2k GBP for flights, so I dont think this is going to score her business class fares to SYD.

Now she has 90k in BA miles as well and we are potentially thinking of buying PE via the BA site however on QF Metal and then upgrading using the miles, is this going to be possible? The BA website indicates that to upgrade from PE to J is 50k in miles

I have tried other routings say from Paris or Frankfurt however it doesnt seem to work out much cheaper at all, althought Cathay do have a Paris - HKG - SYD rtn for 2.6k GBP.

I cant seem to get the JAL UK site to quote a flight to Australia for some reason, the option isnt there on the website. Any suggestions?

Flexible with dates, Flying out on 24/08/10 rtn no later than 08/10/10

Any suggestions at all?

I am pretty sure that you can only use BA miles to upgrade flights marketed by and operated by BA , so need to book a BA flight to upgrade... plus the BA business class is better anyway I would say on BA

If she is prepared to pay a bit into it herself, business class can be got for around GBP2600 on SK iirc, plus can depart from LCY rather than the hole of Heathrow

Alternatively, use some BA miles to get a r/t LHR-CAI and Etihad has a business class return from CAI-SYD for GBP2288 including taxes ( 1 stop via AUH ) though would require an overnight stop to connect in CAI since the BA flight arrives late at night and the EY flight departs at 14:05
