Hi All

I have a meeting in Washington DC on June 1 to 5 and am currently getting quotes to get there.

I would like to do the AU-USA hops on the A380 and engage in a moderate MR on the return leg. I was thinking soemthing like:

BNE-MEL-LAX-IAD-JFK-DFW-ORD-LAX-MEL-BNE

Does the MEL-LAX QF also have an AA code share?

I am an AA Plat member needing to requalify and would like to take advantage of the Double EQM :)

All travel will be in whY on upgradeable tickets as I have a few 500mile upgrades I will be using on the cross continent legs.

My basic option would be BNE-LAX-IAD-LAX-BNE on QF codeshares (booked under AA of course)

Any thoughts or pointers would be much appreciated.

Mods: Feel free to move this thread if its better suited in another area.

You can find whether there's a codeshare or not by looking at oneworld - Home and going to the timetable, from that once you know which flight it will be you can cross reference with the Qantas site to see whether it will be an A388 or not.

How about a oneworld RTW fare?

You'd then get the 380 to LAX and again LHR-SIN-AUS?

Cost would be similar, plus you can add legs for MR purposes.

How similar will the costs be in Y though. I realise the cost is similar in higher fair buckets, but not sure when we are talking LONE3/4

At minimum it would be a LONE4 as you can't do a 3 out of Australia.

What about a circle pacific? Can you do those in whY?

If you travel under your AA number, then you won't get the SCs to maintain Plat.

If you are looking for extra miles, then how about flying AA from LAX to JFK and then JFK to DCA.

As an aside (and I wouldn't necessarily turn my itinerary upside down for this), I assume you realise that IAD is about 45 - 50 mins away from DC, while DCA is 5 - 10 mins ?

Would also be useful to look at a Circle Pacific fare for your trip. If it's miles and SCs you are after, then that would also give you a return through Asia, where you could pick up a fair few extra miles and SCs, depending on your routing.

However, a MR in Y is probably not the most enjoyable way to travel, so I'm not sure I woud be prepared to do it !

good luck.

An LCIR22 is the same price as a LONE4 in peak season, so I'd probably favour the LONE4 if purely based on miles.

I have next to no QF points, the goal is to help maintain my AA Plat status.

BNE-MEL-LAX-JFK-DCA-DFW-ORD-LHR-FRA-HKG-SIN-SYD-BNE

That looks to be a "legal" DONE4 and I should get the A380 on MEL-LAX and SIN-SYD. Its a cough load in whY, but I have 12 x 500 mile upgrades with AA that I could use for ORD-LHR

Now to see what the TA comes up with when compared to BNE-LAX-IAD|DCA-LAX-BNE

Edit: BNE-MEL-LAX-JFK-DCA-DFW-ORD-LHR-AMM-HKG-BKK-HKG-SIN-PER-SYD-CNS-BNE

Try that!

Congratulations!! Valid itinerary!!! - (34709 miles)

And thats definitely enough whY

Which has now morphed into BNE-MEL-LAX-JFK-DCA-DFW-LAS-ORD-LHR-AMM-HKG-KUL-NRT-PER-SYD-CNS-BNE :p

Try substituting AMM for DXB or AbuDhabi (LHR-either on BA, to HKG on CX)

Will baggage/checkin/etc handle the 9 hop multicity?

what ? not simply happy with being able to get to the cities, you now want your luggage to get their as well ????? :p

I would hope so, but I would also be packing spare basics in your cabin luggage (and making sure you have decent lost baggage cover on your travel insurance).

Qantas managed to lose my bags for 3 days recently on a flight from MEL to DCA (via JFK). Somehow the bags ended up coming via HKG ! And I was travelling in F.

At least my travel insurance had a $5k allowance, which helped, as I needed to buy an entire wardrobe for meetings etc. (although I didn't go close to hitting the $5k, for those who would be thinking about it...)

Given its summer in the US and the meetings are informal enough to get away with pants and polo shirts, this may also be a hand luggage only marathon

At least pick a stop or two to take an overnight and sleep in a real bed......
LAS-DFW-LHR is more miles than LAS-ORD-LHR. Note LAS hotels are relatively cheap.

Replacing SIN-HKG-KUL-NRT with SIN-NRT and adding LHR-CAI-LHR (even better - DXB or MCT) is even more miles (atleast 1K) The first leg of the addition should be able to be booked on the AA code share and if you have it the AU$750 for the T class upgrade would convert almost no BA miles into something useful on the return. This last suggestion applies to the QF LHR-SIN leg as well.

Remember if you flew LHR-BKK-NRT you could break the RTW flights by adding a cheap BKK-MEL J* round trip and resume the last RTW segments later in the year.

CAI would be more interesting for an overnight if you haven't seen the pyramids. Just a personal opinion.

Happy wandering

Fred
