Hi - I just discovered this site recently and joined up.

Been a frequent flyer for work for a few years - just domestic flights between Sydney, Melbourne and Perth mainly. I'm gold status with Virgin but my work doesn't allow employees to use their frequent flyer points accumulated from work travel for personal purposes. They have to be used to book work travel.

So I have a credit card linked to Qantas for my own points, which I've got quite a bit. I don't have any status with Qantas though because I don't fly with them much. Unfortunately I've found it almost impossible to book Qantas awards when I want to travel. I am married with 3 kids and there never seem to be any award flights available in school holidays. Are they ever available or do you have to book years in advance?

Welcome to Aff ruben38

There certainly are flights available for purchase with points in school holidays. Booking well ahead is the key. Although I recently had a look for the coming April school holidays and saw SYD - HNL available for award purchase. So you may need to keep looking.
