Hi aff!

First time member and poster here from Brisbane!

I'm hoping in your wisdom, you'll be able to help me out on 3 questions I have about an upcoming trip (which thanks to you all I've accumulated sufficient qf points to make!).

1. I'm flying on CX146 BNE to HKG which has a stop in Cairns. I'm wondering what the deal is with the stop over - do all pax have to deplane and reboard? I'm flying J so will I have lounge access there?

I'm flying BNE to LHR on a QF reward in J, arriving at LHR at 6:20 am on CX255. I then have a separate revenue ticket for BA800 which departs T5 at 11:20 am. I have two questions in relation to this:
1. Do I get lounge access in LHR T5 if I fly in on CX in J and have my next flight in Y with BA? From what I understand the answer is no unless I visit the arrivals lounge (which is prefer not to do as I don't want the streets of entering the UK just to have lounge access for an hour or two).
2. Has anyone had experience through checking from CX to BA on separate tickets. I understand CX don't have their one interline explaination on their website so I can only assume the normal one world rules apply. As I'm within the MCT (I have 5 hours at LHR), CX should be happy to through check from BNE. Anyone tried this?

Many thanks to all,
jboy

Hi and welcome to AFF!

I can't answer the transit in CNS - someone else with experience of that flight will be able to assist.

As for the other questions:

Yes! You have lounge access at Heathrow. (No need to go to the arrivals lounge.)

Under the oneworld agreement, if you arrive long haul premium (first or business class) and are connecting to a short haul flight, the class of service on the inbound flight determines lounge access at the connecting point. In your case, arriving long haul business gets you access to the business class lounge, even though you are connecting to economy.

Here is the rule - perhaps print it out/take a screenshot just in case you have any problems: https://www.oneworld.com/ffp/lounge-access The section you are looking for is 2/3rds of the way down the page - lounge access for business and first class.

CX is pretty good with interlining bags. Never had them reject it. Just show the connecting ticket at check-in in Brisbane and ask for the bags to go all the way through.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I think Amaroo has done the CX BNE/xCNS/HKG flight on CX.

I believe Menzies ground handling do CX checkin at BNE so just make sure you have your BA eticket itinerary/receipt showing flight details with fare bucket eg 'Q' class.

Even if CX tag the bags to your final destination you may not get the BA boarding pass so you'll need get that on arrival at the transfer desk at LHR.

I did a HK - JFK with a transit stop in Vancouver, everyone was deplaned for about 30 minutes. a hour later they cancelled the flight due to bad weather in NY

Yes, you will have to get off the plane in CNS, and re-enter the Departure lounge through Transit security (so keep your LAGS regulations in mind when departing BNE).

CX use the Reef Lounge in CNS.

Thank you all for your replies!

Looks like the stopover in Cairns is around 70 minutes so perhaps just enough time to have a short relax in th lounge before reboarding.

Can the Galleries Lounge at T5 issue my onward boarding pass for my BA flight if I don't receive this at BNE? I've visited the transfer desk at T5 in the past but was travelling in Y.

Many thanks,
jboy
