Hey, I was wondering if anyone had tried out these headphones or similar? They look comfy and you can supposedly sleep in them. I am interested in knowing if they would be noisy for the person sitting next to you (if on a plane) because they sit outside the ear. Thanks

I have a similar pair - they're 'sleep phones' - google them - they're really comfy. I have the Bose QC25's now though and use them instead for the noise cancelling and I find I can sleep in them too. Not as comfy as these though, but I think the noise cancelling function is the winner over the comfort.

I think those headphones would have poor sound quality and likely be drowned out by the aircraft noise.
Bose QC20's are pretty comfy and easy to sleep in. They are expensive though but I assume that similar sized in-ear buds would be equally ok to sleep with.

Thanks for the info so far. I was mainly looking at them just for something to wear on the plane to watch movies/music while trying to sleep as I always find other earphones make my ears sore as I never wear them at home and they always dig in if I put my head on the side to sleep. Just didnt want them to be annoying to the person sitting next to me If I had to turn the volume up to hear it myself as the speaker doesn't sit in the ear.

I don't think I would spend the money on the Bose as I only use earphones whilst flying and not everyday. They sound like a great option for noise cancelling though.

I don't think the person beside you would notice at all.
If you struggle with in-ear phones and sleeping then the headband looks like it would work well for you.

I have something similar for my Ipod shuffle - I have two headbands and the speakers are a round disc that sit in the headband - works fine on the plane but I don't know if anyone can hear my music. Certainly not noise cancelling.

I guess the issue is whether the headphones fit with aircraft entertainment systems (movies or music?). For personal devices I suppose they work just fine.

I like the idea though. Something I've been looking for!

This is something I've been looking for as well, not for planes as much as for hotels and even at home. I listen to music or audiobooks to help me switch my brain off and get to sleep, but have struggled to find comfortable earbuds. Hate them in my ears. Thanks Bree for posting about these and Strezza for the 'sleep phones' tag. A-googling I shall go!

I took SleepPhones on my last long-haul trip in place of the Sennheiser noise-cancelling ones that I've had for many previous trips. They were not only far more comfortable but also very much lighter, which was important as I was travelling HLO. They also substituted for an eye mask when pulled down over the eyes, avoiding the tangling of eye-mask elastic with headphone wires. After some trial and error I settled on a couple of restful audio recordings that I was happy to set on repeat (not the meditation channel with intrusive voice instructions), and slept better and for longer than I can recall doing o any previous flight.

Worth comparing prices incl. postage between the manufacturer's site, Amazon and the local distributors. When I bought mine, just under a year ago, the manufacturer's site worked out considerably cheaper and had the colour I wanted, but may not be so now given the slide in exchange rates. I didn't buy the model with volume control and didn't miss that facility - simpler to adjust volume on the arm rest.

Well I ended up buying some today from Typo and they are quite comfy so far, when I lie my head on the side on the bed/pillow doesn't dig into my ear at all. And its great you can adjust where the earphones sit within the headband to get the best fit. I can turn the volume up to just over halfway on the iphone before the person beside you would start hearing any sound from them. I think I will be quite happy with these :)

Bose QC20 don't bother with anything else for sleep phones on aircraft..... Unless you go isolating over $500 apair

Yeah G'day Plant....

I'll give you a VERY strong Second there....QC20 all the way. A worthy , not over the top investment providing good dividends.
On my second set,
Apparently they have a "stress fracture" issue when driven over by car at pickup point at BNE ;-(

Maybe I have oddly shaped ear canals but there's no way I can sleep with my ear against a seat cushion if I have anything in my ears or anything that rigid on top of them. Those Bose may well be good for cancelling ambient noise but not for sleeping comfort.

If you are lying flat with your head on a pillow those Bose QC20's work like a charm ;)

If your a corpse and have fangs sure it's great .......but
Count Dracula I am not! ..... For those of us who swallow garlic everyday it's ok for the first 20 minutes then on the side we go. :D

I really do not like the sound that come out of Bose headphones, so I invested in some Sennheiser in-ear headphones. I have a pair of IE80's with 3M Comply Foam Tips that do a great job of isolating most the noise (note that I like some low-level background noise when I sleep, I cannot sleep in silent rooms). They're not cheap heaphones (more than the Bose) but I use them as my everyday headphones and the sound that comes out of them is stunning. The 3M tips are also expensive as they need to replaced every 4-6 weeks if you use them daily, but they're well worth the cash.

As for sleeping in planes with them, they're fantastic. They sit just inside my ear and don't protrude. I can lie on my side (as I do when I sleep) and they do not fall out. They're not uncomfortable and I can play some music to drift off to (which I also required).

Either way, i'd head for in-ear phones over these 'sleep' headphone options. Just find a pair you like and that has the sound quality you desire.

Have you tried the comply foam tips? I find I can't use the supplied rubber in-ear tips, but the foam ones are brilliant.

No, I haven't tried them, because I actually don't want anything in my ear if I'm going to be resting my head on my ear - let alone the headphone wires dangling around my face and getting twisted as I turn from side to side. That's why I'm so glad to have found the SleepPhones with just a single wire at the back.
