I am honestly rethinking my false economy of the cheap HA flights from BNE-HNL, when it has become very obvious their lack of metal, crew and resources in this part of the world severely hampers their capacity to deal with aircraft issues. HA444, 21 April is delayed at least 17 hours at this stage. Currently holed up in the Mercure Brisbane (we were told it was going to be the Pullman), just wanting to start our Hawaii holiday. Methinks routing through Sydney for next time to avoid HA & JQ (minor delays last time)?

Considering that delays can happen on any airline at any port, as frustrating as it may be you may as well chalk it down to the joys of travel. There is nothing to say going via SYD that Murphy's Lore won't come into play and you will face a similar delay...

True that. My ponderings were around using an airline in future that flies only 2 routes in Oz, so when things go wrong they go very wrong, with limited backup resources to scramble; hence a 17 hour delay. Murphys law did in fact come into play when HA lost our bags HNL-OGG!

The Australian airlines aren't immune from large delays, so it's the luck of the draw sometimes.

Hoping your on your way! We just back on the 22nd from a great 3 weeks in the wonderful HI. We flew jetstar from Bris without incident. My only advice is if your flying inter island with Hawaiin. Read the baggage allowances carefully and Pre plan your check in and carry on. They do hit you with big fees for check in. Allow as much time as you can Pre flight. Honolulu check in was a shambles with self service bays only and no ground staff at all if you needed help. Huge crowds and long queues. If you have boards only two are allowed in a surf board bag.

Despite its lack of aircraft based in Oz as highlighted above, HA rarely appears to run late.

However on Tuesday 26 July, the usual 1920 hours evening arrival of HA451 (A332 N399HA) in SYD has become about 2047 hours. It took off from HNL at 1448, two hours and 13 minutes later than its scheduled departure of 1235 on Monday 25.

As the returning HA452 is not scheduled to depart until 2215 hours, it could well be on time barring any unexpected maintenance (or passenger) events.
