Has lifetime gold been devalued?

I lived in Australia / NZ for over 10 years, was Platinum every year and now obviously have Lifetime Gold. Right now I am also Diamond with Cathay's Marco Polo, which is higher, so I use that when I am back in Aus. But when I read the emails from Qantas about the new "Platinum One" and stuff, I'm getting the impression that they have basically downgraded everyone and added a new top tier.

As I'm viewing this from a distance, can anyone in the know give their impressions? It was a Big Deal to get Lifetime gold back in the day, pity if they basically pulled the rug from under it!

Platinum 1 is a whole new beast above and beyond Platinum (make of that what you will)

So Silver is still Silver, and Gold - Gold...

Not at all. If anything Gold has actually improved when status bonus changed from 50% to 75%.

Well there is and there is. If you put something "more elite" at the top, does that mean either now - or over time - what is below shifts downwards.

For example - upgrades - platinums used to be the top dogs and get any upgrades going; now someone else is top dog and so it ripples down. That was my point. I'm assuming that folks like Qantas are the ones who say "oh no, nothing has changed, gold is still gold" but that wasn't the real question.

There are a few threads here that allude to status within status and in particular PCV (Perceived Customer Value...I think.) How does QF decide which WP's win the upgrade lottery? I think serfty (apologies if not) has intimated that the P1 level has existed but was not formally published.

Personally I do believe WP has been devalued, but by the great SC giveaway. (I don't particularly blame QF for this they are in a tough fight with VA/DJ)

According to some members, you could ask the same question by substituting "lifetime gold" with "QFF".... and "devalued" with "enhanced" :D
