Has anyone ever seen such a weird seat map on Qantas?

I've just booked some flights to South America through Qantas, code share LATAM metal under QF flight numbers. This is how the seat map shows:

Seat map.jpg

This flight is operated on a 787-900 so what the heck is this seatmap? It doesn't make sense at all and doesn't look like LATAM's Dreamliner config even in the slightest. I don't like the idea of only having these middle seats available but can't go any further down though there should be quite a few more J class rows behind. And on LATAM itself, strangely it accesses the booking but tells me it can't be accessed on their system to check in or change seats.

Any suggestions? Do i need to call LATAM? And more curiously, any ideas why it comes up some strangely, anyone else ever have this? Thank you! :D

Essentially what you are seeing is a result of the codeshare arrangement between QF and LATAM. QF only has access to a set block of seats which is why you will only see a limited part of the cabin.

Flown that (QF321/322) LA800/801 many times. The 787 J cabin on LATAM is only 5 rows in a 2-2-2 config.

That was my first thought too. But that doesn't explain why there is no row 1 and there's rather toilets at that spot. The LAN config has the toilets far up the front and then 5 neat rows of six seats each. Quite an odd selection of seats and an even odder display her on the map if you ask me. But hey, if that's the way it is...

Yep, I've been on that plane before as well on the way to Auckland and back. It has never shown like this on Qantas and the row 1 missing entirely is really weird too. That's why I was asking!

I have found from experience that on QF coded LAN flight, you can ask to be changed to the 'missing' seats if they are still free on the day at checkin.

Okay, so this sounds to be normal. Will try this and if it doesn't work- well, it's a pitch black night flight for the most of it anyway so we will manage :p

Yes it does explain it, QF only shows what they have access to. From memory the QF/SA codeshares on the SYD-JNB and PER-JNB were the same.

The same happens on QF27/28 SYD-SCL, seats are allocated to LATAM codeshare pax and you can't select them.

Okay, thank you all! I've learnt something new :)

Bumping this thread instead of starting a new one.

Just went to select seats for a standard QF B738 flight from Bne-Mel and this is what I was presented with... have they just blocked middle seats?

That's a weird one. Maybe Qantas is taking a leaf out of BA's book and launching "Club Australia" (let's hope not..)

I’ve seen this before on 738 flights where they need to block a few seats due to payload restrictions, such as DPS-SYD. But never on BNE-MEL. What does the Expert Flyer seat map look like?

This is very interesting - I have never seen that on a domestic - any ideas anyone?

I’ve definitely only seen this on the DPS flights. I guess there’s a small chance the wrong configuration has been applied to the flight?
