I have the most amazing hairdryer... in the States. It's a CHI and I know it will not work in Australia, already tried and tested, killed it.

So far I've been looking online for an alternative, I am not seeing Chi's online. Is there a shop that someone could recommend? I am a complete and utter newbie in terms of Australia shopping.

I am really going to miss Amazon.......

I'll be in Brisbane, btw.

Thanks!

The voltage is much lower in the US so you fried it. Cant help on the alternative - maybe a GHD style?

I feel your pain after foolishly bringing my hairdryer to the US on a work trip !!

The hairdryer I use and love is my Parlux 3500. I have long hair and this dries it perfectly in 5 minutes.
I purchased mine from the site below but any of the Aussie online retailers is perfectly ok. Just shop around for the best price.
Parlux

EDIT: Just noticed they have the GHD Air Pushka mentioned also at $149. That's the dryer used in the hair salon I go to.

Ok. I have short hair. Very straight much to my (late) mothers disgust. So I rarely use a hair dyer. What makes a hair dryer special?

Thanks! I'll try to find the Parlux or GHD in Brisbane.

Pushka- for years I used bad dryers. I realized I always liked my hair when I left the salon. So paid attention to the dryer next time I was there. I bought a similar model. My hair is salon like all the time now.

My hair in it's natural state is completely unmanageable. A good blow dryer can dry it quickly and without frizz. Makes my hair feel like silk. A bad blow dryer, will dry my hair, but with waves and frizz.

Does your American hairdryer come in a dual voltage model ? I have a couple of InStylers ( they are dual voltage ) one with an American plug I take travelling, and one with an Australian plug

they are the curling wand type not the rotating kind.

I have very straight shortish hair, I don't use a hair dryer, I let it dry naturally and then either use my instyler or a curling wand.

I fried a curling wand in Bangkok once - we were staying in the Millenium Hilton when it opened, I plugged it into the power socket and turned it on, and blew the power on the whole floor  turned my finger black !!! I was jet lagged and that's MY excuse !

Dual voltage ones work here with an adapter plug ;)

OK - I havent really noticed the change in texture with the hairdresser unless it is coloured that time. Maybe I just dont need it then.

Definitely Parlux or GHD if that's your hair type you won't regret it.

Please be careful buying from eBay etc as there are counterfeits around of both of these types of dryers.

I have purchased many items from the websites below and can definitely recommend them.

Adorebeauty

They are likely to be significantly cheaper online than what you can buy instore in Brisbane eg David Jones $209

+1 for Parlux, I've had mine for a few years now (purchased from price attack salon if I recall correctly) and still going strong, I just wish it was dual voltage. I travel 3 -4 times a year to the US so purchased a good US one a few trips ago as I got sick of hotel hairdryers, my cloud nine straightener always comes along too and fortunately that is dual voltage.

I never thought of buying a US dryer !! What a great idea. I have a small Babyliss travel pro dryer which is much better than hotel dryers but nowhere near as good as my Parlux.

My thoughts too....hot air is hot air? My hair dries straight as can be all on its own so I guess I dont really understand....

Dries hair quicker? The wife uses a hairdryer when she shampoos her hair. She has shorter hair as well.

Luckily I haven't needed a hairdryer since my teens. ;)

Um. I'll bite. When else would you use a hairdryer?
She doesn't shampoo hair everyday. Hair can get wet at other times. She uses the hairdryer when she shampoos her hair. Wasn't meant to be funny.

Making this move to Australia has been eye opening.

I am still getting annoyed and shocked about the little things (BACON). And for some reason right now the thing that has my goat, my hair dryer. I am pretty low maintenance about a lot of things. But I've spent 35 years on this earth with "bad" hair. Now that my hair is playing nice, I will fight to to keep it. So much so, I am already booked to fly back to the States to get my hair cut. It's really a dual purpose trip, I'll make Platinum on QF.
chase

If you happen to meet me at do and my hair, is well, unkempt, just smile and move on........ You will then probably realize the seriousness of the situation

I'm going to cut the OP some slack here :D
I vividly remember when I first moved to Australia from the UK and it was the little things that I missed the most - proper chip shop chips, Hula Hoops (the chip variety) and Marks & Spencer.
Actually when I think of it, 17 years on I still miss them :( :p
