Well as I haven't seen it discussed on here - but seen plenty of people ask - I thought I would post what I have found with Hainan Airlines from Brisbane via Shenzhen and beyond. I find them to be good value for money - but here are some things to be aware of:
1- No Baggage Transfer in Shenzhen - even if you have a 90 minute connection with them - they cannot transfer your baggage from one flight to another in Shenzhen. So no matter what your expectations are, they cannot do it. So you need to calculate that you have to collect your bags upon arrival in Shenzhen - and take them up to re-check into your next flight.
2- Most flights in Shenzhen will be a remote stand with bus. If you get an air bridge flight, it will be rare. So they normally start to board at 45 minutes prior too departure and last bus leaves terminal 30 minutes before, as you often have a 10 minute bus ride to the plane. If you are not checked in more than 60 minutes prior, you will be running to make your flight in Shenzhen.
3- Getting VA status recognized is a battle. Be ready for a fight, and at times 30 minute battle for them to go up 4 levels of management to get the ok to recognise VA status.
