Last fortnight we were due to fly home from Port Vila after a holiday on an island off Santo.
For the flight the weather in Santo was fine but cloudy but it had closed in to rain and poor viability in Port Vila by the time we arrived.
Our flight managed to get in but the Virgin flight due to take us home didn't after quite a few attempts.
The story we were told was that the flight had 3 attempts at Port Vila, then went to Fiji for fuel and then had another 3 attempts at Port Vila, couldn't get in and then went back to Brisbane.
It looked as though we were to spend an extra night in Port Vila - possibly the terminal and that wasn't going to be particularly comfortable.
Luckily, Virgin came good and arranged for all passengers to spend the night at hotels around Port Vila. I am not sure if this would have been the case anyway, but we were grateful.
The ground crew were great under fairly trying conditions and diffused the whinging, moaning and groaning with lovely smiles.
Getting us all a bed for the night in a relatively short time was certainly a feat.
We tried to find a box of chocolates for them but unfortunately was only able to find boxes of upmarket jelly beans as a thank you as were were leaving the next day.
