Grand Canyon helicopter crash kills three

A tourist helicopter has crashed in the Grand Canyon in the US state of Arizona, killing three people and injuring four.
The aircraft suffered "substantial damage", a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The helicopter was operated by tour company Papillon Airways. It is not clear what caused the crash.

That's a little too close to home, as I did my Grand Canyon flyover with that company.

So sad. Like the recent Sydney sea plane incident, I wonder if there were multiple family deaths. Very difficult for the families and friends.

Having done a couple of heli lessons and flights, I find them difficult to endure because they ramp up my anxiety, especially the smaller ones.

It’s what we all do if given half a chance. Similarly awful crash in Alaska a couple of years ago but I still want to do one.

As others, I went with this company a few years ago. And found the entire down into the canyon descent and then up again both super exciting and beautiful. After these news, maybe a little bit TOO exciting :(

Very sad indeed. I flew with this company 2 years ago. They are a very big company with lots of aircraft. I hate flying in choppers to be honest, i think of it as pot luck. Just my insecurities at work.

. Just my insecurities at work.

I think the worse thing was doing a couple of lessons (hubby got them for free and instructor invited me along), they seem so fragile to me now. One hand controlling the rotor, the other controlling the throttle while giving tourist commentary and the little tiny piece of string on the outside to save your lives... I do not enjoy them at all.

Like driving it becomes second nature.......but lots to go wrong with no redundancy.

It looks like the company uses good helos too...... I was expecting to see R24's.....

Pot luck ... we went with another crowd, no guarantees.

I used this company about 5 years ago. Even after this crash I wouldn't have any hesitation in recommending them.
