Got a family email and they are now gold

Really weird
last month I got a family members email and it was all gold colour
I was a bit busy and didn't check the account this month it came again all the other family members were red
so i logged in to the account and he is gold till late next year
not a flight this year and gold
we don't know anyone who would make him gold
really weird
anything like that ever happen to anyone else?
not complaining ,just that we never fly qantas and are virgin plat and he is AA lifetime plat.

Yes, there was another instance of that on AFF about a month or so ago. It didn't seem to be a mistake either, it 'stuck'.

My wife got a letter which promoted her to gold. She had partner gold around three years ago, and the only flight she did was to Rome earlier this year. She was ecstatic as from her point of view meant she could fly without me as she no longer needed me to get into the lounge. Great way to get loyalty!

Good way to have loyal customers.

Some people are 10 SCs short and do not get Gold status while others have never flown and are gifted Gold status.

Sounds like a trainee working in Qantas marketing.

Bah! Just checked my email inbox and no SG upgrade. Also on track to finish the membership year on 295 SCs... (all in discount Y) so the LT Bronze status lives on!

QF has been doing this type of upgrade recently (or maybe we're just hearing more about it). An IT glitch? Who knows.
