Have notice cathay have some very good intra Asia Business fares coming up. i've just booked a weekend trip in May SIN - HKG - BKK - HKG - SIN in J. Cost me $550 and by my calculations should get 280 SCs.
I have done the SIN-BKK very cheaply in the past but the Cathay website is now allowing flights via HKG for the same price :p

Was just looking into this - nice $/SC at $1.96. Seems to be active through to end of June, and no stopover in HKG is possible from what I can make out. Takes you 7.5 hours to get there instead of 2.5, but there you go :D

actually seems like a pretty good earner there, cheaper than a LAN AKL-SYD!

Nice little earner.
My favourite Cathay J Fares were ex TPE in December eg -
TPE-HKG-SIN/KUL/MNL for around $450 240 or 200 SCs for each run.

Can still get these fares within 2 weeks on the "weekend super saver" sales but theyre priced around $550-640 AUD.

...

EDIT: Silly me! Search from SIN, prices are in SGD *slaps forehead*

Even with currency conversion fee that's still excellent value, but still have to work out how to get to SIN on the cheap (award redemption, hmmmmm....)

JQ $250 via Darwin to SIN ex BNE and then buy a return flight from QF ex SIN (unless you want to save $200 and JQ back with those terrible timings). The flight restrictions on fares ex SIN are minimal compared to deep discount ex Aus restrictions!

Viva Macau to MFM then Air Asia/Tiger to SIN? :D

Flying JQ and making it on time scares me and probably don't go well in the same sentence!

EDIT: Dammit - so why can't I stop considering booking it?!!!

EK for $683 return ..

You would be wanting to pay me $683 for the 3AM ex BNE departure let alone the 1AM arrival on the return - not my sort of timings when for $750 odd you can JQ up at decent hours and QF back! When I am considering JQ the alternate must be real nasty!

For $674 retn can get out of MEL at 7pm and back to BNE at 1am - appealling as it avoids overnight travel in both direction, just need to find cheap DJ or QF to MEL first.... I agree a 3AM departure is horrid, but I really don't know what the big drama with a 1AM arrival is - IMHO much more preferable than an overnight flight on QF. I'd always get a longer and better sleep in a bed than on a plane (in whY) even if I don't get to bed until 3am!

That's *stunningly* good value - almost as good as my last AA run. Anyone with a CX crystal ball - what are the chances of this deal hanging around?

I was pricing the QF flight via Per (72/594) to BNE during the day - in the spirit of AFF you do get an extra 15 SC's :D , at $564 SGD its also cheaper than the direct and just a tad more than a non SC earning option.

Ah I guess that makes sense then. QF always do seem to have flights to E/C via PER flight quite cheap!

Of course those of us lucky enough to be living in Darwin, can currently get a return to SIN for $160, and the flight times are ideal for a quick weekend trip.

The runs out of TPE have already increased noticeably since Christmas. e.g. TPE-HKG-MNL was ~AUD350 and is now ~AUD480, TPE-HKG-SIN/BKK/KUL was ~AUD600 and is now ~AUD750.

The CX business class airfares out of BKK have also increased. e.g BKK-SIN was ~AUD400 and is now ~AUD750

What used to be a nice little status earner is turning into a CIRCUS ala the US YUP/KUP runs. Advertise them on an open forum and the airfares, almost always, start increasing in price. Can't see them lasting at these prices too long so better get in quick....

I'm seriously considering booking a couple of these.

Would it be possible to transit overnight in airside in any of these airports (BKK, SIN, HKG)?

I might have to squeeze a stay in a bed there somewhere (after all, I still need to stay alive), but I'd like to minimise that part of the expense as much as possible (maybe PC points will be my rescue option).

If it helps a lot more, I might travel with only hand luggage (= no liquid duty free, though :().

Singapore yes; easily; I think they sell them in 6 hour blocks, there is the hotel in T2, not having to go through security may save some questions.

The TPE-HKG-SIN and return in one day is easily possible, early start late finish and a HIX is 20 minutes away for $80 a night from TPE.
