OK, so I'm trying to decide whether to make some status runs taking advantage of the current double SC promotion. Background is that I'm currently 245 SC short of Gold & 1045 short of WP. Have until 31 May to make up the difference. I had 4 o/s work trips in 2013 + 1 o/s holiday. Will probably do something similar in 2014, all going well.
I'm based in Newy so I'm assuming the SYD-BNE-TSV run makes the most sense if I decide to go ahead. But is WP status worth my time, money & effort?
All/any advice gratefully received :)

Worth it for the F lounge. :) If you can do it fairly cheaply and will get the value out of it then go for it.

Although, you may like the benefits so much you'll forget you have a child and wont be super mummy any more.

And once you've got the 1,400 SCs you only have to earn 1,200 in following years to retain the exalted status.

I'm in a similar position - I'll need 690SC to hit WP from SG, but I only ever have one international flight per year so the F lounge will not be much use.
I guess I'll have to weigh up whether the other benefits of WP are worth it (I can live without full-time J lounge access).

It all depends on how often you are flying and how much extra $$ you need to spend to reach WP.
5 trips per year is not a lot so I'm not sure how much you can use all the WP benefits.
If you travel mostly in Y then F lounge access is a good perk, also seat selection and extra luggage benefits.

I have never used additional luggage allowance, I'll never carry more that 23Kg anywhere.

Mrs Lime had me take up double SC offer to get to WP, on our last trip had great time in SYD 1st lounge, in HKG tried the Qantas and Cathay lounges all fantastic, go for it!

1045 SCs is a hell of a long way short of platinum and for 4 trips a year is a lot to spend to get there in both points and cash.

If your international travel is with Qantas then perhaps consider making a run for SG so you get lounge access for any domestic/international travel - it won't be the first lounge but it'll mean a shower, a meal and a drink etc.

The FLounges are great but like you I only do a small number of international flights per year and if it was me I wouldn't be pushing for WP from so far out. If I was going to be doing international even once a month or more then it'd be a different story and you'd be able to see the return.

I do at least fortnightly domestic flights and for me this is where WP has been the most benefit - priority boarding, seat selection and business lounge in MEL/SYD/BRIS have been great perks.

Last year I was SG and 250ish SCs short of WP and did a status run for it with a DSC and could justify that - I don't think I could justify doing it 4 times to get ~1k SCs to make 4 visits to the FLounge a year.
