Is it really as glamourous as it loks for you lucky "FFFFFFFrequent flyers "?
i mean it is a real effort to get to silver for me , and while i will hit Gold this year (all with QF mind you) it is not likely to last for more than than the 12 months. for us ground dwelling mportals is all the time in terminals, J Lounges (no matter how comfy) all worth the time in the air etc?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Any glamour the airlines had ceased on January 22, 1970. :p

Only speaking for myself here.

I actually do not like flying. Not even in the premium cabins. I don't really care about my "status" with the airline, as 99% of the time I'll be in row 1 anyway.

Status is great for when things go wrong, or you have a tendency to do very last minute bookings. (That's me BTW)

I assure you that F passengers (regardless of "status") will get the highest level of service and attention. The fact I'm both a "status" pax, and that I always fly in the premium cabin, almost certainly ensure I get the highest priority etc......

IMHO, it still isn't "glamorous". It is public transport from point to point after all. I enjoy the lounge as opposed to sitting in the departure gate, but the "glamour" of flying has long since gone for me.

I'm with Tony Hancock and the Boss on this one, glamour long gone, just makes everything more bearable :)
Plus I get a certain perverse pleasure at wringing out maximum "bang for the buck" and taking advantage of every lurk and perk I can learn about (most I have got from AFF so stick around!).

cheers

The journey is just a way to make my work more interesting - I get bored going to the same office daily and would rather fly to HKG than drive to Penrith.

I am at a lucky stage of FFing in that I fly enough to still be somewhat excited but not so much that it is a chore (apart from SYD-MEL-SYD that I am increasingly bored of and am doing more of).

The tricky routes, different lounges etc are for me just a way of making something that could be routine slightly less routine.

It is also pretty nice to be able to take mrssimongr or a colleague into the F lounge :)

Basically I only do 2 OS trips per year-one a DONE4 and the other one of the circle products in J.So I still enjoy the majority of my flights though I would say glamour is going a little far.
I certainly enjoy being able to access F lounges, play the upgrade game and planning my trips to get the maximum enjoyment and best bang for the buck.
My domestic work flights are infrequent and unusually only began when I retired so not bored yet.

I'm not one one of your overly frequent flyers and am strictly leisure, but (in fact, probably because of it) I still get some enjoyment out of the overall experience (lounges, and premium cabins when I'm in them) though glamorous it is not, and I'm dreading flying Y long haul again (I will try and avoid it, but I fear it is inevitable at some stage). I used to only fly Y, but since being on AFF the hints and tips have been invaluable, and, Trans-Tasman aside, I don't think I've been in an international Y cabin at all for the last couple of years. But I have to carefully plan, pay, use miles etc to do it.

Where we have had the specific conversation, I reckon every really frequent business traveller I've spoken to about this basically hates it (there will be those who don't but I'm only going on the ones I've spoken to)

that sounds like me, I now dread flying in Y and in fact have told SWMBO that unelss I fly in the fornt (or at least J) I aint gunna go !!
as someone of genreous build and mid 50's in age I feel its my time to spoil myself a bit

The glamour of flying fell off the perch quite a while ago for me. Hopefully now we're allowed to book Y+ for flights over 8 hours it may recover some shine.....:-|

No that was a great day in aviation...

March 15, 1967 was the day the idea of taking glamour out of flying came about, June 18, 1971 was the date that glamour officially started (albeit slowly) leaving aviation creating what we have now, glorified flying buses for all but the longest journeys (well most short haul, and some medium haul at least).

As for glamour ( \ enjoyment) in flying... Well it's lost for me on short haul flights (CBR-SYD and CBR-MEL without travelling further afield...) But long haul it's still infrequent enough (especially over the last year) that the enjoyment of flying is still very much there.

My travel is (relatively speaking) infrequent enough and almost entirely long haul, so I still enjoy it - and I now have a personal rule that anything longer than about 4 hours must be in a premium cabin of some description. It doesn't make it any more glamourous, but it's at least comfortable.

I wouldn't say glamour so much, but exciting is definitely still the case for me ; as I embark on new destinations and methods of travel, it keeps things interesting and exciting. The hardest part of travel is being away from the ones you love.

I wouldn't say "glamorous" at all.

But I do enjoy flying - I think I enjoy the being "on the go" aspect of it.

If I was commuting MEL-SYD all the time I'd probably get bored - but I don't, so not bored yet.

There is no glamour crossing OZ in Y.

Crossing the planet in F is somewhat different (as long as it doesn't become routine I guess).

I still love it 100% (well 95% - the OMG o'clock wake ups for a SYD-OOL for example isn't something ANYONE would call glamorous).

Luckily I'm one that travels different routes all the time, not specifically SYD-BNE-SYD / MEL-SYD-MEL / etc week in week out - that would kill me. Half the fun for me is going through an airport and visiting a city that's either new or one I haven't been through or seen for a while.

I certainly don't think it's glamorous, status just makes the travel easier.

I guess I'm lucky in that most of my travel is overseas, and even though its almost all business my business partner is also my husband and he often travels with me and I can often tack on a few days of R&R to the beginning or end of my trips.

When I have to do a quick MEL-SYD return in a day I can see how awful that would be to have to do regularly. Long haul is better somehow as you spend proportionally more time in the air and less on the car, check-in, security etc. And of course there is the Flounge. :)

Thanks to what I have learned on AFF my almost all Y travel has now turned into mostly PE some J and an occasional Y trip so its not all bad I guess. I even managed a FASA LHR-MEL last year and that was fun!

Looking at what some others here must do I should start thanking my lucky stars and count my blessings. Don't get me wrong I still enjoy the travel just not so much the flight related stuff. I'm looking forward to planes that have more humidity in the cabin so I don't get so dehydrated and can sleep better and so hopefully feel better at the other end also.

cheers

Timmi
