My fiancé is flying out on QF94 on 18th January in Premium Economy Saver fare (originating in USA) and is a bronze. We usually always fly together so seat issuing isn't a problem as i am WP, however for this flight even though EF says W has 9 seats it won't allow me to select a seat for her (looking for an aisle). If i called WP line can they usually help with this ? Its a stand alone booking as i fly back a week earlier so its just her on the PNR. Also EF has 7 in F and 9 in J so i put a upgrade request on with my points, do you think this is likely , does my status help at all with that?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

A couple of years ago I called the platinum line to request help sorting out a seating problem for my son and his partner. (I wasn't travelling and they were both bronze). They were very helpful and sorted it all out for me. Don't know whether I just got someone good, or if it is normal. :)

There used to be a bug where the status of the person requesting the upgrade was used, but I think it has been fixed. Certainly for the various upgrades I have put in for my son recently, it looked like his status was being used not mine.

18 Feb is a Thursday and generally he and his partner have had better luck with upgrades mid week, rather than weekend, so hopefully :)

Does Y+ get free seat selection? Certainly in Y a bronze would need to pay for it in advance, but dunno about Y+.

The WP line has been good when ever my partner and or children were traveling alone and assisted on each occasion with better seat selection, so yes go for it.

The criteria for processing of upgrades is based on the Status of the passenger however if you use your points to upgrade she will be assessed ahead of any other bronze members with requests on that flight, BUT not ahead of any other higher status passengers right the way down to and inclusive of Silver status Holders.

Thought they had stopped charging for seat selection recently on International flights?

Here we go I was wrong.

Seat Selection is now complimentary for international Economy Saver and Flex fares. The charge for Seat Selection for International Economy Sale Fares has changed from $25 to $15 on Trans-Tasman flights. For all other International flights it has changed from $25 to $30. More customers will have the option to select their preferred seat free of charge. Where customers select seats free of charge during check-in (available from 24 hours before departure), or do not select their seat at all, our airport staff will endeavour to accommodate parties travelling together if seats are available.
