Does anyone have any experience dealing with the Greek Consulate in Melbourne to get a Schengen Visa?

I'm an Australian PR holding a foreign passport in Melbourne and need a Schengen Visa to travel to France later in the year.

The French embassy website says I need to apply for it at the Greek Consulate. So do I make an appointment directly with the Greek Consulate? Who decide my application? France or Greece?

Roughly how long does it take to get the passport back from them? and more importantly, what supporting documents do I need?

My email to them went unanswered and the Greek Consulate website doesn't have much information on how to get a visa through them.

Much appreciated for any suggestions / experience shared.

If you have an Australian passport then you don't need a visa to enter the Schengen zone afaik.

Is there any particular reason you need to use the Greek consulate instead of the French?

As best I understand, the schengen visa lets you enter any of the member states. In theory it wouldn't matter which country issues the visa.

The french consulate directs applicants residing in VIC to apply at the Greek consulate. NSW can apply at the French consulate.

Yes it does not matter where the applicant applies theoretically but to improve chances of approval, should follow the application procedure for the country that most time will be spent in or if equal time, the country of first entry into Schengen.

Extremely frustrated with the Greek Consulate in Melbourne. I've been trying to contact them for over a week now. My emails went unanswered (I've already tried sending from different email addresses), both phone numbers they provided on their consulate website went unanswered. I have no idea how I am supposed to contact them.

All I'm trying to do is to ask them a few questions. I haven't even booked an appointment with them yet.

Should I just turn up at the consulate?

The way this is going, I'll have to cancel my trip to France. Seems like neither the French nor the Greek is interested in having tourists.

This is ridiculous.

Hi InfreqFlyer,

How did you manage to obtain Schengen Visa? I am in the same situation as you. Australian resident in melbourne on a foreign passport. I will really appreciate your help.
thanks :)

I ended up going to France via a second country so I can avoid dealing with the embassy.
