Generous J availability on NZ

Just redeemed 4 J seats for a family holiday to NZ. I was surprised and impressed with the availability of J seats for redemption across the Tasman.

On one leg CHC/BNE on the A320 of the 8 J seats in the cabin, we could get 4 as redemptions.

Yep, J availability is usually easy trans-tasman on NZ. Also, now Krisflyer allow one-way redemptions on *A partners.

On the 747 and 777, you can often get more than 4 seats in Business, even during peak seasons, e.g. Xmas...

Any word on success with trans-Pacific redemption seats.

I didn't have much luck getting AKL - LAX redemption seats in April next year, they seem to be a lot more protective on that route.

Wondering if as the accumulated KF redemptions grow in the Australian market, then I guess it will tighten up. NZ just seems so convenient.

Trans Pacific is definitely not as freely available as trans Tasman.

AKL-SFO and AKL-YVR have much better availability than AKL-LAX.

If you're after a particular date, remember that NZ don't release seats as early as other airlines. Also, a subscription to expertflyer.com helps...

Never tried more than 2 J seats but I always find plenty of availability of J seats trans-Tasman. This is probably because of plentyful of flights for all carriers trans-Tasman, not to mention most people don't bother flying business as the time is too short. Also the lack of YQ on awards is fantastic, as well as very much appreciated. That's why I have ALWAYS flown NZ trans-Tasman and onward to Pacific islands. One of my favorite airlines.

Too bad they hardly have any 747 and 777 flights from SYD to NZ so haven't tried Business Premier yet.
