Flying on an inuagural flight is on my to do list. With Hawaiian commencing flights out of BNE an idea has been forming. I could fly from BNE on Wednesday 28 November and depart HNL on Saturday 1 December. Their next flight to BNE departs on Tuesday 4 December. Sure , I could fly home Jetstar but that means via SYD.

If I do the Wed - Sat I would have the Wed, Thu and Fri in Honolulu. I have already visited Hawaii four times and those trips were at least two weeks long so to spend just under 72 hours there will be a bit of a shock to my system. I guess three days in Hawaii is better than none. With return flights currently a little over $1000 I could easily do this trip for under $2000.

By now you must be wondering why I posted in the your questions thread. My question is should I do it? I sound like I have already made my mind up so perhaps it should be who wants to come with me to prove I'm not mad?

To the mods - I almost posted this in the meetings and social events thread so please move if needed.

I say do it!!! Just got back from 2 weeks in Hawaii on Friday and would go back for any amount of time. The first day you are always a bit hazy but as the weather is usually great being able to get outside is a bonus.

We go to Hawaii every year, usually in December or January as a stop-over to the US mainland and this is the first time we have been in June/July and it was so busy - prefer off peak to the US holidays I think.

Enjoy

KarenS as Dr Phil says "I believe that 80% of questions are statements in disguise". In other words if you're posting here you've already made up your mind.

Don't forget to go to Eggs 'n' Things in Saratoga Street for breakfast. The 'things' side of it are pancakes and crepes which are seriously the BEST! After breakfast there is a bus stop conveniently located across the road that will take you to Ala Moana Shopping Centre.....:p

Do it. You've identified a desire and the opportunity is there. It is rational and of benefit to you.
Who knows what your situation will be in the future and if you identify another inaugural flight and are unable to take it for whatever reason you'll regret the missed chance.

Thank you for the replies everyone! I think Oz was correct in quoting Dr Phil that I've already made up my mind. I guess I'm looking for reassurance that I'm not mad in considering this trip. MrKarens won't get the leave because a few colleagues have time off then so it would just be me going and I don't think Mr fully gets it yet. He's asking what tangible benefit there will be and all I can say is a quiet house for a few days.....

With three days, you have enough time for Eggs & Things (but I still haven't been there, walked by in April tho), a reccy trip to Ala Moana for informational purposes, a trip on the $5 bus the next day to Waikele to compare prices & shop if better prices, and then back to Waikiki/downtown and Ala Moana for anything better than the outlet offers. And maybe some browsing along all the shops along Kalaka'ua in Waikiki. ;)

Definitely do it if you can, we are back there again in November for 16 nights - ( I think this is the 12th time maybe more) - love the shopping, the sunshine, and getting out of Waikiki. Go and check out the newish Ross Store in Waikiki, haven't been there yet. Have a great time - just wish they had decided to fly from Melbourne.
