Hi,

My family are all about to fly Christchurch to Johannesburg return later this year.
Ticketed South African Airways, but flying AirNZ across the tasman, then Qantas from Sydney to Joburg. Then back again.

Can I use my Virgin Australia Velocity to gain the airpoints from these flights?

If not, Ill use AirNZ airpoints, but Ill look into avoiding the $50 joining fee?

Interested in any advice fellow travellers may have

Thanks

MG

not sure about velocity, i think its only a virgin thing but dont quote me.
I see it as sign up for each alliance and airlines program you can, Qantas i think is best done by signing up to woolworths everyday rewards program, that bypasses the qantas signup fee. All my Air NZ flights i have been putting onto my United Miles which i signed up to for free when making my first flight with them. Id love to somehow transfer these miles to AirNZ program somehow, but havent had the time to look into that

What are the flight numbers SA VA/DJ or QF ?
Makes a big difference

Are you a member of any freq flyer program other than Virgin
You will not be able to use the Virgin ff on QF
For 1 return flight not worth joining Air NZ Airpoints: you may not even get points. Air NZ is one of worst freq flyer programs

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Normally you can join airpoints for nothing on the plane... But that may be a temporary promotion
on air nz you can earn velocity points but you won't get velocity status credits. Just ring air nz and ask if you can before for free?.. If you have velocity status... Silver, gold etc... A little birdie told me ask for a status match...
