A couple of quick questions. We are flying to New York late September, will be flying via DFW. Booked through QF, however the DFW to LGA leg is on American Airlines.

Firstly do we pass through imimgration at DFW or at LGA. Secondly being that both flights are ticketed through QF, am I right to assume they will be transferred from one flight to the other, or do they need to be rechecked at DFW.

Thanks in advance.

The first port of arrival in the USA is where you will pass through immigration and customs. So you'll need to collect your bags at DFW and then check them into the AA flight.

There may be a quick bag drop for transit passengers.

The first port of arrival is always the immigration point in the US. At least one reason is because US airports do not separate international and domestic pax.

There is a quick bag drop for transit pax.

Usually DFW is quick. I’ve often been off the QF bird, through passport control, collected bag and re-checked it, through security and in the Admiral’s Club inside 30 mins.

But nothing is guaranteed in LOTFAP...

Sounds like you got both sectors on the one booking?. If so your bags will be tagged through to LGA but as stated above you will have to pick up the bags from the carousel and then re submit the bags at the bag drop off.

If not in one booking you will have to pick up the bags and then check- in for the 2nd sector

Correct, one PNR. Thanks

As @JohnM mentioned DFW transit off QF7 to AA is simple. Bags checked to final destination in AU and once you pass through immigration and customs in DFW you collect your luggage then drop it with the baggage transfer people who send it off to your next flight.
From memory you then head around the corner and up the escalators to then re-clear security and head to your gate or lounge.
