Just saw this on the AY website, lifetime platinum / OWE can be achieved after 5 million lifetime tier points

page can be found here

AY Platinum takes 150,000 tier points to reach and lifetime is 5 million...

working backwards to translate this into Qantas lingo, if 150K points = 1200SC, then 5million points is ~40,000 SC.

So about 30 years at my rate of flying

Thats a lot… so, who’s going to go for it :p

At least they have a clear cut validity of the cards, unlike QF it seems for LTG members:

Your Finnair Plus Lifetime card will be delivered automatically. The actual card is valid for two years; after that, you will always receive a new one. If you reach a Finnair Plus Lifetime Platinum tier, your Lifetime card will be delivered to you directly.

Just trying to work out the earn rate of tier points. Not sure the conversion above is accurate - it compares the relative value the airline puts on the platinum level but not necessarily what you need to fly to get it...

It seems like you earn tier points at 1 point per mile plus 25% in J which would mean 6 returns to London in J to get AY WP compared to less than three returns to get QF WP.

From memory AY Platinum is not a simple status achieve. One would 150,000 tier points or 92 flights to achieve it but would get Silver level at 40,000 tier points or 24 flights and/or Gold at 90,000 tier points or 54 flights.

Also not for someone living in Australia and mainly on domestic flights you would be in trouble unless you were paying higher economy airfares.

Y B H K W R T earn 100% tier miles
L M S G V earn 50% tier miles
N O Q earn 25 % miles

There does not appear to be any minimum points guarantee. Not as rosy as it may sound and almost impossible for someone like me. With my flying I would struggle to reach AY Silver on tier points but would make AY Gold on flights taken.

I believe this one goes in the too hard basket....

Also, if someone was going for it who primarily flies on QF or other OW airlines - who's to say Finnair will always be in OW?

That's why I'm a firm believer in achieving status on the airline you most regularly fly with (even if that does screw over AAdvantage members who fly domestically in the US...)

Cheers
Febs.

Not sure about those in the USA but I would definitely agree with this statement.

But when you already have the highest published lifetime status in your geographic home program, then I believe there can be benefits for some people to look elsewhere. However, lifetime platinum on AY is not within my goal list! But lifetime Platinum on AA would be a nice match for my Lifetime Gold on QF.
