I'm looking to book two return flights from Europe to Perth before March deadline for new AA awards - in business class ( first would be nice) for travel in early September using my AA miles ( have 77,500 and could buy more to get to 80,000)
We are flying there on Etihad but I'd like to try another airline back. Checking AA website it pulls up a lot of BA flights for many cities , and going through London appears expensive in fees / charges
Any suggestions about which of the bigger airlines have lowest charges / routes that go eg Rome to Perth , Venice to Perth , that don't take several days ?
Would cathay pacific Rome to Hong Kong , Hong Kong to Perth which I understand I might search via qantas award site be a likely route with availability and reasonable fees ? Others ?
Any help appreciated

September 5 there is business availability on Qatar. FCO-DOH-PER. That or Cathay would almost certainly be fastest. Cathay would probably be a lower co-pay.

JAL would also be cheap and you might be able to do two long legs in F, but you'd have to do SYD-PER at the end and get to Frankfurt or Paris if you don't want to start from London.

Just passing through London should not be as expensive as starting from London.

BA and IB levy fuel surcharges on award tickets via AA. All other oneworld airlines (AFAIK) are all taxes only. Steer clear of BA and you should have some pretty reasonably priced options.

80,000 won't get you two return fares from PER with AA miles although you mention you already have PER-EU booked (60k for J or 80k for F, one way) but only if you route via DOH (not EY and AUH, that'd be 75k in J or 100k in F). Are you coupling it with other miles/paid fares?

AA have an ex-AU via DOH or DXB permitted for the 60k/80k award, but as EY are not part of that rule, it's two one way awards (AU-AUH, AUH-EU).

EY availability is excellent though ex MEL on the A380 though.
