If you fly Qantas, have you seen how Virgin does it with a smile? Makes it really feel like home to me...

Side bar on the song used in the vid: this new style of singing where they try to sound as unenunciated and entirely bored as possible really bugs me

Couple of things jumped out at me..... I recall the original QF campaign and the only thing I remember of that was that the choice of music was a mistake, which obviously VA have repeated/parodied.

Although the original QF campaign was probably worthy of parody, its unfortunate that the VA "answer" actually raises more questions to me, about who and why VA felt the need to spend the money to make this. Lets break down some of the main/memorable scenes:

  • traffic jams into SYD airport just tells us that flying is an inconvenient commodity/necessity/grudge purchase in a country that has insufficient infrastructure in a couple of big cities separated by lots of empty space, and regardless of whether you fly QF VA JQ or TT you still end up in the same stupid traffic jam such as near Kingsford Smith followed by the zoo that is security screening....
  • the less said/shown about VA's inflight food compared to their full priced competitor the better - why would they want to draw attention to this anomaly? Ditto for IFE - same thing just implemented slightly differently...
  • scenes of a A332 J class cabin - unless you are flying to HGK you have almost no chance of seeing this product on a domestic J flight and yes I know that QF also advertise their A330 J class as a domestic product but they aren't fooling anyone either...:(
  • lots of empty Lounges and airport terminals without people - I know that space is a selling point and they are trying to advertise an empty sophisticated experience without the great unwashed - but all I could think of was the current load factors on VA flights
  • loved the scenes of the self check-in baggage area (is it PER or the training campus in BNE?) but why show something that your competitor has already widely implemented? Seems a weird choice to me. o_O
  • priority boarding - and lets give them some credit - its something that they actually can reliable deliver better than their competitor :)
  • also noticed that there wasn't any reference to VA's shambolic web sites/online design, I wonder why.....
  • they went to some effort to highlight the human interaction and customer service people on the front line at VA - this is probably a good idea and could have been expanded on (I think in past successful campaigns VA have tried to highlight this).
They've basically delivered an advertisement that says that they want to copy/ or be just like Qantas, but when you scratch the surface they just aren't quite there yet, and they aren't significantly cheaper either so they might be in a bit of a pickle once the latest batch of foreign investors start to wonder where some/any of these profits are going to come from....

Should be noted that this is a Parody Ad that airbusboeing37 uploaded to YT in mid-2016.

I assume it mixes the Qantas soundtrack with various Virgin videos.

Not official.
