Just did a quick BNE-DUB return in Oct - routed BNE-SIN-DXB-DUB same way back (second time this year).
Bought the flight on the QF web site logged in with by QFF number - as one does.
The trip was on EK metal all the way.

Minor problem at BNE - the status and FF no did not "come across" into the EK system. After a short delay EK contacted QF and all was well - got access to the lounge. Unfortunately, I had to negotiate access to every lounge in both directions, fortunately, all the staff were polite and helpful.

On checking my activity the DUB-DXB leg was credited with the correct points and status, but the DXB-DUB received no status credits and fewer points.

Reason: "it was marketed" as an EK flight only - all other legs had a QF and EK flight no.
My argument: I was purchasing a BNE-DUB return from QF - expecting my loyalty to be rewarded. QF sold the thing on their website - I suppose selling something has got nothing to do with marketing it!!!!

Anybody else experienced this particular example of mean and tricky behaviour???

I suppose the thing to do is stop when Gold is secured for the next year and try the other flavours out there.

I think many people get caught out, stick around- there is lots of info on here to help you avoid getting stung again

Mean and tricky behaviour? It isn't a case of this sorry. Tricky perhaps but not mean.

If you have purchased the flights off the QF website, they disclose what flight number you are purchasing. If you purchased the EK code on the DXB-DUB leg, you are entitled to points at the EK level only.

If you want the Points and SC's, you need to purchase the QF code.

Not all flights offered on the QF website carry the QF code, otherwise if that was a limiting factor as to the flights they offer, you'd lose a number of destinations.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Might be better to go BNE-SIN-LHR-DUB once Qantas moves back to SIN.

Qantas sell UA connections (with UA flight numbers) so yeah doesn't mean you'll get the normal QF benefits just because they sell it to you. They do codeshare on that route so maybe they were sold out when you booked.

I have made this trip many times - it always had a QF code!!!!. I've neve struck DXB-DUB-DXB without the QF code!

Been avoiding LHR for years as a route to DUB. Actually started going thru FRA - it made the trip longer, but the Germans know how to run an airport - LHR - I cannot adequately express my feelings without resorting to profanity - and I wonder if Brexit will have an impact?

The QF site sells both the QF and EK codes on this route.

Check your e-ticket to see what one you have purchased. If it was the EK code, the posting would be correct, if it was the QF code, then you need to call QF to adjust the earnings.

It would be nice if they made it screamingly obvious before the transaction was completed!!!!!

When booking I’ve seen that the same flights are offered - one booking with QF code and a duplicate that uses EK code. Just need to be vigilant all the time as to which one you select.

I have used LHR frequently as a hub in the last few years - and I've got to say I love T5. If you come in on a BA flight and leave on a BA flight, all within T5, it's a very smooth experience. It's a shame the QF SIN-LHR flight won't be using T5, it would have made connections a lot easier.

What do you mean about Brexit? The answer regardless is no. It may need to negotiate new traffic rights with the EU - but all of the EU airlines will need to do the same to fly to the UK. It's pretty likely they will sign an open skies agreement like the EU has with the US (BA is confident that the UK & US will have an open skies agreement "one second after the UK leaves the EU". In addition, BA's parent company (IAG) own three EU registered airlines - Iberia, Aer Lingus and OpenSkies.

With regards to UK/Ireland flights, there will be no change so long as there's an open border between RoI & NI. In addition, Ryan Air will not want to lose any rights flying from the UK so you can be sure there will be a deal between the two countries.

It may be - but given I knew that all the flights were on EK, I didn't occur to me that one would of three legs, would not be a code share. It won't happen to me twice!
I really don't know why the outcry- it clearly states on the QF website whether a flight is 'QF' or 'EK' code in front of the flight number. Not exactly a secret that you should always chose the one with "QF" as a Qantas frequent flyer. If you require extra hand holding with this, I am sure there will be many travel agents out there who will happily charge you a booking fee for that convenience

Thank you so much for your suggestion, it was extremely helpful. I must work on my miff. I'm rather surprised that it evolved into an outcry with such rapidity! Is that normal on this forum?

Unfortunately yes, on occasion. 'Old stagers' like myself forget that sometimes people aren't as clued in to all the 'tricks or lessons of the trade' as us and get a bit narky when someone complains. It seems to be more prevalent when the complaint is about Qantas.

Don't worry, stick around and you'll get sharper at your game, and learn new tricks and be much better off for it. :)

Most of us have made similar mistakes at some point. :(

You tend not to make the same mistake again. :)
