I'm sure this has been covered before but I can't see it. Do other AFFers have favourite take-offs and landings. Mine are actually combined in one trip from Okinawa/Naha to Osaka Kansai. I love seeing the Ryukyu islands strung out, not south Pacific blue and beautiful but glimmering with fishing boats up and down the East Chine Sea. Landing at Kansai equally impressive, coming in from the sea with a great view of the mountains just behind the coastline.

In a weird way I still like landing at LHR, breaking through the cloud-cover and seeing that incredible green. Also miss the old landing at Hong Kong where the last few minutes took you between apartment buildings which always seemed closer than they probably were.

Any others of you have favourites?

The steep take off from SNA , also for the scenery SYD at night (love the night lights coming in over the Suburbs and harbour) and PDX seeing Mt Hood capped in snow as you are coming in.

Out of ICN on an SQ or OZ 777 in J...

Out of AKL on an NZ 772/747 or preferably a 773 in J....

Out of NRT on an NH 777 ... in J...

...see the pattern here? :mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

I do!

You love any take off on a 777 ;)

The approach to LHR over central London along the Thames -- you see the famous sights from the air: Hampton Court, Tower Bridge, Kew Gardens, Palace of Westminster, London Eye, &c.

Best landing ever Kai Tak, new airport is nowhere close to that experience :( also ZQN is pretty spectacular.
Any takeoff in Zone A of a 747 ;)

As a young feller (aged between about 13 and 17) I loved approaching SIN (Paya Lebar Airport) from Australia - the lights, first from the shipping, then from the island itself - this was always late at night - were fantastic.

Later on, Kai Tak (only did it once) was a most memorable landing in amongst the buildings. ZQN is also very picturesque.

PS. ANC is pretty good too.

The takeoff and landing at TOD is spectacular ... landing sometimes a little hairy though!!

Agree with ZQN too.

YUL in a snowstorm is quite spectacular and makes you appreciate the pilot a lot. Also coming into SYD when there is fog and seeing just the tip of Centrepoint sticking out of the fog is quite amazing.

Sapporo coming in over snow covered forests of Aomori province is nice.
Geneva is great, flying alongside the Dents du Midi.

Something about the landing into lax after the pacific sunrise...this all ends once you leave the metal.

I'm rather confused about the "pacific sunrise", I thought only Australians had that rather than Americans? ;)

Not sure that "favourite" is the right term....but take offs and landings at Lukla airport in Nepal are definitely memorable!

The view of the Andes shortly after takeoff from SCL is breathtaking.

Landing into Sydney, window seat with views of city and harbour, never get enough of this.
