Hey guys,

I'm a first-time poster here, so I do seek your patience. I am trying to do a multi-city booking with QF ex-SIN with the following routing -

  • 11Apr QF72 SIN-PER
  • 12Apr QF648 PER-MEL <connecting to>
  • 12Apr QF412 MEL-SYD
  • 08Sep QF421 SYD-MEL <connecting to>
  • 08Sep QF777 MEL-PER
  • 17Sep QF77 PER-SIN

The website's booking engine is only able to give me a Sale fare of S$901, which, when I called up to check with the call centre, told me that Sale fares book into O class usually. When I lopped off the last segment of this itinerary (i.e. the PER-SIN segment), the itinerary had to be sectorised according to the call centre person and it became a Super Saver (S$902), booking into V class for the SIN-PER segment, and S class for everything else.

Try as I might, I was not able to get the system to price a Super Saver for the full itinerary.

My questions are as follows -

1. Is ringing up the call centre the only way to upfare this itinerary (which will then incur the S$50 call centre fee)?

2. How much difference is the Super Saver fare likely to be from the Sale fare I was quoted (S$901)?

3. Is it likely that some of the higher Sale fares (which I can get if I adjust the dates a bit) may book certain sectors into an upgradeable fare class?

Thanks so much for your help guys!

Cheers,
W.

A travel agent would be the person to talk to in this instance, QF's multicity engine does have significant limitations at times and itineries that are a little complicated would be best left to the professionals.

Not sure why you want super savers, unless your plans are going to change in terms of dates etc, most fares ex SIN are upgradable .

Hi markis,

My plans may change - that's one, but more so, I wanted to upgrade one leg of the segment (from MEL to PER) but that is not doable if the whole itinerary is ticketed as a Sale fare, which is why I asked if there was any chance one of the segments would be anything >= S fare class.

Thanks for the quick response!

Cheers,
W.

Welcome to AFF BTW

Your current schedule would book into 0, and some of the higher fares revert to S class, definately a travel agent job IMHO.

I dont think an Australian based TA is going to be of much use in this case, I checked the flights out of curiosity and the cheapest fare an Aus TA can ticket ex SIN on those dates is H class at AUD$1643.54 inc taxes.

A SIN based TA is more likely to be able to assist as they're at point of origin, but there's just no cheaper fares available for sale here than what I listed above.

Hi Markis & TG,

Thank you guys for your kind help!

I guess I might give the QF call centre a ring and ask them if they could do it... the last time I brought up upgradeability, the agent checked and got back with a fare of SGD2,500 or something close to that as he mentioned that certain fares cannot be combined (i.e. maybe we can't have a segment that books into S, with the rest in N O Q or E or something like that), so the entire itinerary has to be in S or higher.

Irregardless, thank you so much for your help!

Cheers,
W.

Hey guys,

After speaking to an extremely friendly QF agent on the phone, I managed to get a quote of S$1247 for a Flexi Saver ticket for this itinerary, which books into V class for the SIN-PER and PER-SIN legs, and S class for all others, allowing upgradeability on all sectors in this itinerary. There was another fare of S$1244, which books into S class only for the PER-MEL and MEL-PER legs, and O class for all others, but this does not make any sense given that an entirely Flexi Saver ticket is only S$3 more.

Thanks guys for your kind help!

Cheers,
W.
