Family Pooling

Just looking for some clarification. I'm VA Gold (exp Jan 2013 but already achieved for further 12 months to Jan 2014) and my partner is VA Platinum (just renewed again - due again November 2013), but there is a chance that our travelling might slow down during 2013. As such, thinking about family pooling with the hope that we might at least get enough SC's to both qualify for VA Gold. Obviously to renew to Gold, I only need 400 SC's, but if we family pool do we only need to achieve a total of 800 SC's for us both to be re-qualify as Gold? Would I be correct in assuming that he would get a soft landing down from Plat to Gold anyway and I could just take the Gold? Sorry if this doesn't make sense, I know what I'm trying to say, but possibly not saying it quite correctly. Hope someone gets my line of thinking.....

My understanding is that youll have soft landings if you don't get 400 for you and 800 for your partner. So if you are totalling 800 for the both of younthere are two options :
- you target maintaining plat for partner , or
- use towards gold for both

You will get a soft landing for the Platinum to Gold anyway. You are best off targeting all your SC points at the Gold and getting the 400SC, then keep contributing and trying to get them up to Platinum. In the year after that, direct the points at the other partner (who is now Gold), whilst the newly minted Plat will get a soft landing to Gold.
