I just had a look at my bookings on Qantas.com and found a booking there that I did not make, for a SYD-MEL flight.

I have been looking at flights for SYD-MEL but have never gone past the booking review page. There is no credit card on my account and all my points are intact.

The false booking has some weird phone numbers showing (see picture below), but it states the flights are confirmed, however the "Fare Conditions" column is not there.

Can anyone tell me whats going on and why this booking was created. I have received no Itinerary via email or any notice apart from it showing up in my bookings.

Have you used booking sites other than the QF site?
I have seen that occur before when using other online booking sites.

Yes, same. In fact I have one sitting in my bookings list now which I just ignore

as part of the booking flow in Amadeus , it is making a PNR in the background. As you mentioned you were looking at flights, and as part of this process you are seeing one of these bookings . Normally they are auto cancelled within a few hours , however sometimes they hang around as you can see

If they do "hang around", what would happen if you turned up at the airport and tried to check-in

The PNR is not ticketed, so you will not be able to check in / fly unless you pay $$$

So, even though the booking shows as "confirmed" it is not yet a ticketed booking and you cant fly without a ticket. Is that what you are saying? Thanks, I have never seen anything like this that is why i'm asking

A couple of years ago I was credited with miles for a booking which was never ticketed...I did wonder if my pre-assigned seat was empty.

Correct , as part of the check in process, a valid E ticket must be in the booking to allow you to receive a boarding pass . I am sure this booking will be gone from your manage my bookings display in a few days
