Hi all

Hopefully this isn't a stupid question.

I'm travelling with a friend HKG-BNE next month on QF. Same flight but I'm in J, she is in Y. Given we will be checking in and going through security at the same time, can I ask for an express path pass for her? Or should I just save mine for a future Y trip on my own?

Will probably check in at Hong Kong station.

You should both be able to go through on the one express pass/

Ah, good point; I didn't think of that.

I'm yet to tell her that we won't be sitting together  Oh well, at least I'll be able to guest her into the lounge.

Yep, I did this on Monday morning, we had one express pass each and just at the last second before we approached the lines I tucked mine back into my bag and thought I'd try getting through with both of us on one pass. Worked like a dream and now we have one spare express pass for next time we go through :)

I have got a whole heap of express pass cards for BNE because the guards wouldn't less us use it (shut the whole thing down) on a number of occasions. I can only think of once when it was open and that was when the place was completely empty. Had been told by other J pax and FAs that it was pretty common in BNE.

FYI - there is no 'express path' facility at HKIA, regardless of status or class of travel.

HKIA is a very efficient airport and you will not need one. You will be through customs and security in no more than 20 minutes, even at peak hour.

BNE on arrival? - they shut down express lines from 7pm each night - but assume it would be open at 6am when the QF flight from HKG arrives - and assume would be opened from 5am or something when the first of the many morning rush flights arrive.

BNE on departures - I always go through the red tape and close it behind me prior to security and carry on through - but they changed it last time I went through for immigration forcing everything via fastgates and only have 2 staff on counters for fastgate issues.

I've found it depends on the 'dragon' guarding the express path queues at both SYD and MEL. I've seen them outright refuse if both pax don't have a pass, and also let both through if only one does.

I'd suggest you ask at check in for a second, or possibly someone here may have a spare you could get :)
