There hasn't been much media coverage of this that I have seen. I am currently in SEA and the focus is on Orlando.

There are sometimes terrorist attacks in China but they are typically confined to Xinjiang Province. Article seems to suggest that the perpetrator is still alive so hopefully he can live to suffer his deserved punishment.

Neither of these events are getting too much coverage in Thailand.

Think we have moved to a time where these type of events are commonplace?

Has been rather more prominent in the news over here in China, as you'd expect. Looks like the guy did it to as a suicide mission due to heavy gambling debts. Stuffed some firecrackers in a beer bottle and blew it up at the check in counter, before attempting suicide by cutting his throat. Obviously not great, but better that he only had a few firecrackers rather than a fully loaded AR-15 to do the job with, as we've sadly recently observed.

One of the more practical issues from this incident is that authorities will now require security screening before you enter the terminal at PVG. Don't know if it replaces the regular screening (doubt it, myself). Not really sure how effective it would be. Just moves the attractive target of a large group of people a few meters over, I reckon.

AUH has screening before entering the terminal. It means that anything that is going to happen has to happen on the roadway area, and nowhere near any infrastructure. Which helps to remove the incentive.
