Hey brains trust! I have been looking for and reading a bunch of info around status matches and they seem to be hard for VA Gold members.

I have just moved to Europe where VA means bugger all. Has anyone had any success getting status matches over this corner of the world?

If you can't find an airline that will status match with VA, (in my years on here), and widely on the other forums, there has never been a status match mentioned between VA and other airlines, apart from VA and QF, where there is competition domestically in Aust.
You could always join SQ's KF, whose points can be earnt on *A airlines, and then the points can be transferred to VFF later on, so long as you keep the VFF account open.
SC of course, might be a bit more problematic to amass.
Even before the breakup of the (Air)NZ and VFF program, I had joined SQ's KF, and they have links to TG and some of the European based airlines, and put my KF # into (Air)NZ bookings, points in my KF account have gone up.
You could also fly from UK to US then to NZ and back to Aust, all the way collecting KF points, or fly UK to Canada with Air Canada, as they are in *A, you can put in your KF #, then get to where DL flies to, and then put in your VFF # into the DL flight back to Aust.
Flying directly, you could still fly SQ via SIN back to Aust.
Sorry for the waffly.

United Airlines will status match VA Gold

That's a really good status to have being based in Europe, too. Lots of Star Alliance airlines around Europe and you also get benefits if you ever fly on Eurowings.

You do have to fly on United metal within 3 months to extend the status, which would mean taking a trip to the United States (which is relatively easy and inexpensive to do from Europe).
