It would be interesting if VA look again at flying from Perth to Abu Dhabi, or at the least seasonal.
Whilst I think Perth to Hong Kong would be more potentially appealing to them. (Also with a VS connection etc. though we know the issues getting slots.)

Other than "loosing" access to the First Class lounge in Abu Dhabi as a VA plat it's probably not a huge blow of Etihad pulling out as Singapore Airlines have key routing covered.

Odd they pulled out with QR bringing in the A380 , one would think there was considerable demand. Etihad has most certainly been cutting loose poor performing routes here abs abroad.

787 in Economy is certainly no loss.

I don't think there's been any change to lounge access arrangements.

I think QR's A380 is far less about demand and far more about competing with QF.

Being in Perth you can get to London for example, with the Virgin Alliance via :

Singapore Airlines
OR
Etihad

Being a VA plat and flying Etihad you get access to the First Class lounge in Abu Dhabi.

So, to use the First Class lounge you will have to fly (for example) Perth - Melbourne/Sydney/Brisbane - Abu Dhabi - London

This means you'd end up flying Singapore Airlines and using it's lounges of "lower standard".

My point is that being in Perth you're not going to access one of the few premium lounges offered which may mean platinum is less appealing for European flights and Gold is fine.

I see your point now. However, you still get EY F access in AUH when travelling through AUH on EY.

Maybe VA will run a 777-200 to AUH?
Edit: Don't leave your PC sitting idle/logged in when there's a joker in town!

Correct. I never said it was being taken away. The topic is Perth international.

Hence my comment. As far as I'm aware, VA Platinums aren't losing EY F acccess at AUH (which is also not located at PER international).

Not much inducement to stay with Virgin as their partners are disappearing, if you live in Perth any more. How do you get SC's to stay platinum.? My partner has gone to Spain returning from Milan 20 September on Etihad. One of the last flights to Perth now it would seem.

We hate Qantas but might have to switch.

They pulled the Virgin flights Perth to Bali a couple of years ago and told you to go Tiger then they packed up. (not everyone wants to fly dirt cheap to Bali!). Now no Etihad, and no more partnership with Air NZ who fly Perth Auckland and onwards. (bet Air NZ will join Q).The only international you can get out of Perth will be Singapore Air. While fabulous they are expensive for a comprable service. Etihad was Ok in business.

Virgin need to join 'one world' real quick.

very disappointed.

So if you live in Perth now how do you get your SC credits. Air NZ is out as well. Only Virgin and Singapore left?

Yup. And Virgin don't have international flights from Perth anymore (they cancelled coughet and Bali a while back, and before that JNB). And some domestic routes have been cut in the last few years too (Esperance, Exmouth). And now more A330 reductions with more east coast HKG routes :/
